Actually, I've only passed through Greve in Chianti on my way from Firenze to Siena. My main target was to visit nearby Montefioralle (which is not listed on VT) and the castle of Vicchiomaggio. Along with this two locations you can see small town of Panzano in Chianti on this page.
Greve is a small town in the chianti wine region of Tuscany. We are standing in the town square by the statue of Giovanni de Verrizzano. The town square is very nice but quite small. There is a cafe with outdoor seating looking out onto the square and a small church.
The day we were in town the traveling fish merchant came through. Greve is not too far from the coast and the food looked quite fresh.
The town square ends in a small church but we did not have the time to go inside.
We were in Greve just after Christmas in 2004 and there are still decorations in the square.
Casaloste is near Greve and it is the smallest vineyard in the Chianti wine region. Producing only 40,000 bottles of wine per year.
You can see a little white plaque on the house in the picture. This plaque says "casaloste" or house of conflct and gives the winery its name. This house was a guard house on the frontier between Pisa and Florence in the 13th. century.
If you are a wine drinker, you will not want to miss tasting the Chianti Reserva from Casaloste. They also make a good grapa.
The owner, Amelia, gave us a tour of the property.
In addition to the winery casaloste is an agratourismo.
