Villa il Colle in Poggio alla Croce: The views, just add rooms
Some photos to show the views we had around the villa complex. To describe the feeling when you wake up in the morning, pour a glass of local wine and then shiver a little as the cool dew on the grass gets between your bare toes.....just the feeling that makes the first light of morning special.

Villa il Colle, in POggio alla Croce: The Rooms
Yep, that is me with my trusty VT flag on our front doorstep.
The next photo shows the kitchen and breakfast table and the girls fixing things...and before you ask, yes I was helping also, just took a break to make a photo.
Just outside we had a picnic table, it was quite cool the first night when we arrived, but we still managed to enjoy a bottle of wine we received from Giovanni (the owner).
Zohara woke up early and caught me outside enjoying the early morning views, thats her in the window.
Caught Tal making us all eggs for breakfast...we purchased everything we needed in the small supermarket in the adjoining town of San Polo in Chianti.

Villa il Colle in Poggio alla Croce: Villa il Colle, views with a room
We found the Villa il Colle on the internet and then rented through an Israeli booking office, but now we have the direct contact for the Villa and can just call Giovanni, the son of the owners who is the person who speaks English in the family. You can see him in the photo with us that we took on our last day. But be careful all our girls, young and old went all dreamy eyed over this good looking young Italian....
I have attached their website below.
Unique Quality: The pool area is situated on a small knoll just outside the sleeping areas and provides a view into the surrounding valleys, one of the best features of the villa.
The photos show the Andrea apartment, the one we rented, the Giovanni apartment, the smallest of the 5 apartments there and the pool area.

Terre di Melazzano: Italian Agriturismo, a great way to visit Italy
We decided to try Italian Agriturismo, a farm stay, where you rent an apartment or small cottage on a working Italian farm. They usually require a stay of at least a week although some will accept shorter stays, especially off season.
We stayed a week and loved it. The manager was Cecile, a French woman, who spoke excellent, French, German, Italian and English . . . and probably several other languages as well. She was very personable and extremely helpful. She gave us touring advice and helped us find groceries and restaurants and was just generally very friendly.
Our apartment was on the "first" floor that is to say, if you live in the USA, you would call it the second floor. We had one outdoor flight of steps. This meant that we had an incredible view. We had a private patio at the foot of our stairs.
Unique Quality: I think the thing we appreciated most, besides Cecile, was the fact the this place had screens on the windows. This seems to be rare in Italy and there ARE mosquitoes.
They had an outdoor terrace overlooking their olives where they have barbecues and dances. There is a lovely swimming pool in season. You could walk to town although the hike back is steeply uphill.
There is a little shop on the premises that sells their own wine and olive oil. The did have one unit set up for handicapped.
There is plenty of parking and it was spotless and quite modern in the units.
Price was 55 to 120 euros per day but is less if you rent by the week or month.

Foresteria Casa Nova: Agrotourism in Greve
We had a very nice stay. The building is not on the castle grounds, but is associated with the Verrezzano Castle, and you have breakfast at the castle itself.
We were greeted by Roberta, who showered us with welcome, offering us glasses of wine, and recommendations for dinner.
Our room was huge and had a beautiful view of a valley filled with vineyards.
Breakfast was fantastic (fresh bread, pastry, fresh figs... yum)... and took place on a veranda with a spectacular view of the landscape.
We loved it here.
Unique Quality: The castle itself has vineyards, and produces Chianti Classico di Verrazzano. You can reserve a guided tour of the gardens and also have a wine tasting.
The accomodations are located in the
"Foresteria Casanova", which offers two apartments and seven double rooms.
I highly recommend the tour, wine tasting and lunch that you can have at the castle. Excellent experience. You get to taste a broad variety of wines, and the lunch itself is absolutely delicious.

Agriturismi - B&B and apartments on vineyards: Where to stay in Chianti
In Greve and the rest of Chianti, for a great vacation, avoid hotels in towns. Instead stay in the rooms, apartments and houses that are available among the vineyards and olive groves of the Chianti hills. They cheaper than hotels, cooler than in the valleys and frequently offer a swimming pool. They invariably have the most wonderful views.
Unique Quality: QUIETNESS!
