ciao! I only know a vegetarian restaurant in Viareggio called La Mela (close to the train station) and one in Livorno called Il Germoglio (by the old canals).

this is for the Mela:

i've been there once, it's quite expensive but really nice

on the other side i've been to the Germoglio since I was a kid, it's cheaper but still very nice

I think we will be making a reservation for La Mela (it fits our itineary as we are staying near Montemarcello/Boca Di Magra, and returning from Lucca/Pisa on one of the days).

Travel Tips for Lucca

Tourism Office

by micas_pt

There is more than one Office that provides information about Lucca. The main one is in Piazza Santa Maria and it is opened every day between 9 am and 7pm (April till September).

There are some audio guides that may be rented for a tour of Lucca. I came across some visitors using this kind of "phone" at main must sees, such as the Duomo. But I didn't rent any, so I cannot account to their "effectiveness". I am not much of a fan of audio guides, so I didn't get any further info about using or renting them.

See Lucca from the Guinigi

by deecat

Almost everyone who visits Lucca seems to be intrigued by the Guinigi tower with tall trees growing on top, which is unique among towers!

However, it is fun to ascend the Guinigi Tower to view Lucca and its redtop roofs spread out below. The addition of the trees allows for some great framing of the rooftop pictures because there is no way to take a photo without the tree limbs framing the picture.

The tower is located in the historic district, and it features an observation tower.
Be sure to use the observation tower for more great photographs..

A cappucino now and than

by Bigs about L´Emiliana

It´s one of those typical snack bar where you get a bread or some cake or just a cappucino if you like.... It was the only place that was opened on the Piazza Anfiteatro when we were there in november...... it was nothing special really.... We only had a cappucino.....

Piazza dell'Anfiteatro

by codrutz

On this spot there was a Roman amphitheater, built in the 2nd century AD, used for spectacles for four centuries, until the 6th century. Then the building began to alter, ending as building material for other houses. The terrain was raised and houses had been built leaving an interior oval of the shape of the old amphitheater. Along the northwest perimeter you can still see a small part of the amphitheater. Today, in the plazza you can have a rest and eat - not the best food though - and I was suprised when I ordered ollio piccante for my pizza and found that they have only regular olive oil, which I had to content with.

Count the towers?

by bonio

Many photos seem to have a tower on them, mostly belonging to churches I guess, all look pretty good and would have enjoyed spending more time admiring them, again the weather forced us to return to base!
