lucca bus station

by bunzybody

we will be staying in lucca for a week and wont be hiring a car.is th bus station inside the city walls and are nearby towns easily accessible by bus?

RE: lucca bus station

by LubaLorine

Actually you'll do better by trains for visiting most cities. The train station is directly in the centre of Lucca and has access to nearly all cities, though you may have to go through Florence. Bus service is available to places that trains do not reach but, again, you may save time by taking a train to Florence or Pisa and then a bus from there, depending on where you want to go. Be sure to check this option to see if it saves time for you.

Travel Tips for Lucca

September Celebrations: Volto Santo (Holy Face)

by illudiumqh36

In the Cathedral there is a wooden statue representing Jesus Crucified (see the related must-see tip). During the celebrations this statue is dressed with precious ancient clothes made by silk, brocade and gold, and with golden jewelry.
Two medieval-style armored crossbowmen are placed as guardians to this holy image all day long during the time in which the statue is dressed.

Parking

by deecat

Lucca is a nightmare town with a car.

YOU MUST PARK OUTSIDE THE WALLS in the public parking areas.

The police are very strict.

The one-way streets are confusing.

There is literally no place to park unless you live there.

The tourist buses create havoc, AND walking is so much more fun.

We enjoyed the walk to and from our car (which was infrequent). It gave us an opportunity to see the walls of the ancient city from the outside again and again. It was also fun to use a different entrance each time we entered.

Note: The photograph is not mine. It was taken from a pamphlet that I had

A typical "trattoria" in town #3.

by illudiumqh36 about Antica Trattoria Buralli

Another "must eat" Trattoria, located between Piazza Sant'Agostino and Via San Giorgio, near Via Fillungo. During Summer it's possible (and suggested) to eat in the garden.
At noon fixed-price meals, while in the evening dishes are a-la-carte or made to order are available.
Great choice of wines from the hills around Lucca (Segale, Terre di Matraia and Greo the best). APPETIZER:
Lardo di Colonnata con parmigiano ed erbette aromatiche;
SOUPS:
zuppa alla frantoiana;
minestra di farro;
farinata alla garfagnina;
MEAT:
tagliata o fiorentina di manzo;
DESSERT:
"Buccellato di Lucca" fritto

A extraordinary view above the city

by tzuki

The Guinigi tower is famous because belongs to one of the richest families of Lucca and in particular to Paolo Guinigi, Lord of Lucca during the first 30 years of the 15th century. The tower rises at 44 meters above the town. Not only this is a particular detail of the tower as there is the unusual Holm trees that are on top of it.

It is a worth to climb its 230 steps from the bottom to the top garden and admire the beauty of the city of Lucca as well as to have some peace if the time and tourists allow it.

Gardens and Home tour

by BruceDunning

This was one of the nicest tours we took inside the walls. Tours for the home and grounds are offered. The price is 6 euro for both, and 3 euro if only the grounds. The home was redone very well and you are allowed to take pictures. The grounds are the outstanding part to remember, however. They are well maintained and filled with statues. it was a treat to relax in this splendor. The home dates back to 1667 construction
