The church of San Michele in Foro.
by Maurizioago
This church was built between the 11th and the 14th century. It is located where the Roman forum was.
Its richly sculpted facade is bigger than the rest of the chuch, because money ran out before it was completed.
At the top of the church you can see a statue of archangel Michael. It has movable wings. So that if the wind is strong they can be retracted.
A legent say that if you catch a green glimmer from the stature of the angel, in a peculiar condition of light you’ll have good luck.
Ponte della Maddalena

AKA Ponte del Diavolo (Devil's Bridge) this bridge is located in Borgo a Mozzano, 10-15 Km far from Lucca towards Garfagnana.
His name is due to its shape, so incredible to let people say it has been built by the devil.
Every halloween night there is a popular fest in which a carriage containing a puppet of Lucida Mansi (a rich lady of Lucca who sold her soul to the devil to keep her beauty for ever) is thrown down the brigde.
Entertainment over lunch
by SPW about Trattoria da Leo
Da Leo has both an outdoor dining area and the more atmospheric indoor dining room. The dining room was crowded and had a 'buzzy' atmosphere and occasional bursts of song from the waiters.
We each started with a different farro soup, then we each had a roast: veal and pork. Unfortunately the roast potatoes were finished so we were offered chips but chose instead roast vegetables and fennel. We drank water and the house red. The bread, already sliced, was brought to the table in brown paper bags to prevent it from drying out, and proved excellent for sopping up the soup and gravy. We finished with one lemon gelati and one tiramisu.
Good food, wine and service and lots of entertainment from both the waiters and people watching.
Look for the glimmer
by Herkbert
Built between the 11th and 14th centuries, using white marble, San Michele in Foro is named after the Roman forum that used to stand at this intersection of the Roman street grid in the center of Lucca. The Romanesque facade is much more ornate and larger than the church that was eventually built, as the funds ran out before the church was completed.
The carving of the archangel Michele on top has wings that are hinged, so during festivals they can flap away wildly or in high winds they can be retracted. Legend has it that as long as St. Michael stays on top of the church, Lucca is safe.
And if you catch a glimmer from the jewel in the ring on Michael's hand, you have lots of good luck, so look up!
Piazza dell Anfiteatro
by micas_pt
Piazza del Anfiteatro (or Roman Amphitheatre Square) is a round square surrounded by colourful typical Italian buildings. This square is named as Roman Amphitheatre since it was built where formerly stood one.
Nowadays it is a "bustling" square, visited both by tourists and locals, where there are varied restaurants and cafes, most of them with open air tables. Also, some touristy shops may be found on this lively, yet lovely, square.
