Ai Cipressi is a new bed and breakfast, opened in spring 2004 (and with some rooms still to be finished and opened). The rooms were very comfortable, with their own private bathrooms and satelite TV.
Unique Quality: Ai Cipressi is run by two brothers, Gabriele and Daniele, and owned by their father, Giuliano. They couldn't have been more helpful, always willing to chat and pass on information, and even offered to run errands for us, such as going to the Tabacci for bus tickets.
The rooms are currently € 79 per night for a double room, including breakfast in your room, brought from the pasticeria next door.

We can thoroughly recommend this hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were large and extremely clean. The brothers, Daniele and Gabriele could not have been more helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had all that we needed at all times including breakfast time. They gave us maps of Lucca and recommended good eating places. This hotel is more than just good value for money it added to the enjoyment of our stay in beautiful Lucca. In addition, the weather was fantastic.

A warm welcome, very helpful with guidance on places to eat and shop. Gabriele even arranged a massage for me at the Ego Wellness centre and a taxi. The room was large and comfortable and clean- the description omits the cooking facilities and crockery provided. Breakfast was predominantly too sweet for our taste but I would not hestitate to return
We spent 4 nights in Lucca and really enjoyed being based at Ai Cipressi. A 5-minute walk to one of the main gates into this fascinating walled city. Although they call themselves a bed and breakfast (breakfast is included), this family-run establishment is more like a mom-and-pop American motel. Actually run by two brothers (although Dad helped out, too), it is newer (by centuries) than any of the other places we stayed in Italy. Rooms were large and comfortable, with satellite TV. Breakfast room was also bright and cheery, with a nice selection of cereals, rolls (always some fresh from the bakery), juice, yogurt. More than you would expect in Italy. One of the best parts was the neighborhood, which was very non-touristy. Local gelateria (and sweet shop) the best we found in Italy. Also local casual dining excellent. Strongly recommend taking a taxi, if you are arriving by train. The B&B is tucked behind another building off a side street, and we would never have found it on our own. If you are driving (there is free parking), get very clear directions (although this is true of almost any place in Italy). Table and chairs outside the room if you want to bring some gelato back to the room, and a communal refrigerator (small) for storing a little cheese or such. Very large bathroom by Italian standards, although shower curtain needs weights to keep it from clinging (we found this in one other hotel, too). Neighborhood is very quiet, although you can hear your neighbors in adjoining rooms. Lucca is definitely worth two full days, with some of the best restaurants in Tuscany. If you don't need to be in the middle of the "action" (with the crowds and noise), this is a great place to stay.
We really ejoyed our stay at Ai Cipressi. As others have stated the brothers really do go out of their way to ensure their guests enjoy themselves. They recommended a wonderful restaurant right inside the city walls that's within walking distance of the hotel. We made use of the bikes they provide and had a great day exploring the city. The path on top of the wall is beautiful and is a great way to get an overview of the city.
The accomodations were very comfortable, clean and attractive. We would highly recommend this hotel.
We stayed in Ai Cipressi from May 1 till May 3, 2 nights. The brothers Grabriel and Daniel were very friendly and gave us nice places where to go and where to eat. The room was beautiful furnished and decorated. Breakfast was excellent. When we returned by train from Florence, Gabriel was at the station to take us to our car and to pick up our luggage at the hotel, great service! Thank you once again.
We stayed at this hotel after reading reviews on this website. We were not disappointed. The room was very large and there was a lovely ensuite bathroom.
Gabriele was extremely helpful - he gave us a map of the city and outlined all the places we should visit. He also made dinner reservations for us.
The hotel was an easy stroll to the city walls. Good location at a good price.
I will definitely stay here again when I visit Tuscany. Next time I will stay longer!!!
What a fabulous find this place was!! It was charming and in a perfect location. I think only 6 units in all so I was lucky to get a room for our one night stay. But what made the place was the staff! The owner was wonderful! He gave us maps, suggestions on what to do in Lucca, places to see. It was a perfect distance from the wall, only a five minute walk! I would absolutely stay here again. I loved Lucca, the people were so friendly. Ai Cipressi was the same way, nice and friendly and a warm homey atmosphere!
..... Ai Cipressi is a small modern B&B, along the lines of a mini motel, with great size bedrooms and bathrooms. A nice little balcony runs the length of the building where you can sit out and chat, drink or read in the warmth of the evening and watch the swifts fly around. There are pretty window boxes overhanging the balcony overlooking the little courtyard / carpark below (bordered with very well maintained cypresses and flowers).
The staff are great, particularly Gabrielle, who made me feel most welcome on my arrival. He made me a cup of coffee and then ran through the sites to visit in Lucca on the large map he gave me. It was a very friendly place and I think the ambience that the Tovani brothers have created, makes all the guests feel special and most welcomed, plus we all got on great with one another.
Lucca is delightful and the walls are quite wonderful with masses of trees - the chestnuts were in blossom when I went. You can see the hills and mountains framing the town. The Palazzo Pfanner which you can see from the top of the walls, is an absolute gem of a building and garden; well worth a visit at a few euros cost. There is some seating in the garden and it is a lovely way to take an hour out of a busy 'tourist' schedule and just sit there and soak up the sounds of the birds and the fountains, and admire the flowers and statues. In the early evening, the walls are alive with the local Luccessi jogging, cycling, walking and exercising around the walls - they take their exercise very seriously.
Ai Cipressi is a few minutes walk to one of the main entrances into Lucca, but be careful and wear comfortable shoes as the pavement is in fact gravel for the most part before you get into the centre of Lucca and when it rains (which it did) huge puddles appear. The railway station where you can easily take a day trip to places like Florence, Pisa or to the beautiful sandy beaches on the Tuscan Coast, is about 10/15 mins walk from Ai Cipressi .
All in all, I can highly recommend a stay at Ai Cipressi and Lucca, for me 4 nights was just perfect, but I will return.
