Hello,
Find the train station on your map. There is a gate near there. You walk straight through, passing some museums and a big piazza. You will be able to see things on the way before you get to what I think of as the major piazza. Go to my tips and find the best place for food. I stayed a week there, and found where locals go. But, go up on the wall to see how big it is. You don't have to walk all the way around.
Lucca is a wonderful place. Enjoy.

There are numerous access points - I would suggest accessing by the main gate near the rail station (St Peter's I think and then walking east to (52) Piazza Santa Maria and then walk down Via Fillungo to the Amphitheatre and then back to the main area near the St Peter's Gate. Lucca is a wonderful place. You can see the access points on the map at this link http://www.luccatourist.it/mappe.php?id=19

Travel Tips for Lucca

The city walls

by Azhut

Lucca has three circles of walls. The first one, built during the Roman Period, is nowadays marked by a few ruins. After the revaluation of the year 1000, the citizens felt the need of the new circlesof walls, which were built between the XI and the XII century: Porta dei Borghi and Porta San Gervasio are just two of the most remarkable remains of that circle. The present circle - 4,4 Kms long - was built between 1544 and the mid - XVII century.

Day Trip to Pisa

by pigletsmom

Pisa is only about 40 minutes away by car. Makes for a great side trip to Lucca. Pisa is a wonderful city with much more to offer than just the leaning tower. Check out the website listed below for tourist info on Pisa.

Trattoria Da Leo

by alucas about Trattoria Da Leo

Da Leo is an excellent trattoria featuring typical Tuscan cuisine. Inside there is a noisy exuberant atmosphere, whilst in the summer there are a few tables outside.

We ate there twice. The first time we had three courses plus wine and coffee for 60 euros for two. The second time, we couldn’t manage a desert, and the bill was only 40 euros.

Torre Guinigi

by HORSCHECK

The Torre Guinigi is one of the two towers that can be climbed to get stunning views of Lucca and the surrounding Apuane Alps. In the 15th century the tower was added to the Palazzo Guinigi, which was home of one of Lucca's most important families. The tower is unique for the oaks that grow on top of it.

Duomo San Martino

by Bigs

Lucca has so many churches that you can visit another each sunday for a year they say..... and it´s true, all few hundred meters you will find a small church. Well, the Duomo is the biggest of all and worth a look at.
