Bus transportation to Lucca/Pisa from Montecatini

by ops

Is there bus service going from Montecatini, Italy to Lucca and Pisa? What is the name of bus company and where do I board it? Is there a website in English?

RE: Bus transportation to Lucca/Pisa from Montecatini

If you are not adverse to taking the train (see www.trenitalia.com), there is a regional train that runs more or less hourly from Montecatini Terme (is this the Montecatini you meant?) to Pisa, with almost all trains changing in Lucca. The fare from Montecatini Terme to Pisa is all of 3.90 euro one way...it's hard to imagine that the bus would/could be much cheaper...

Oh, on the trenitalia website, press the English link on the upper right, and play around with it...

Travel Tips for Lucca

A daytrip to Barga.

by Maurizioago

Barga is a beautiful hilltown, north of Lucca. It is situated in the valley known as Garfagnana.

The things to do in Barga are to get lost in its maze of alleys, visit the cathedral and have a drink or a meal at some cafes or restaurants.

The cathedral was built from XI to XVI centuries. Outside the cathedral there is a good viewpoint from where I took some nice pics.

The ring of the archangel.

by illudiumqh36

On the top of the San Michele church there is a statue of the archangel Michele.
If you stand on the right corner of the square (on the right facing the facade), just outside the very perimeter, you can see in the summer night a sparkle glittering on the angel's hand.

Spacious restaurant with parking and terrace

by tzuki about La Salette

The restaurant looks small from outside but later we discovered it was enough spacious and it has also the terrace on the side to the square Santa Maria. It is one of the locals for pizze, focacce, calzoni, salads, etc...

We arrived there early for lunch and we were lucky to eat in the terrace beside the weather was not so good. While the food was superb and very tasting as well. The service was fast and keen. We had a salad as starter, a pizza with parma ham and egg and a calzone with spinach.
Calzone is one of my favorite dishes when pizza arrives and it keeps the ingredients all together and warm enough while eating.
We had a tiramisĂș (a traditional Italian desert) which was delicious too.

FANCY FACADE

by travelgourmet

The center of Lucca, home to a roman forum, a fancy facade with cathedral inside makes for an impressive sight. San Michele in Foro, a 12th century cathedral, sits tall in the piazza with the many colonnaded arcade that goes up a total of five stories, capped at the top with a statue of the Archangel Michael.

The facade was to have been the front for the remaining height of the cathedral, but the building was never completed. Art works done in the 15th century by Mateo Civitali, Andrea della Robbia, and Filippo Lippi adorn the facade. As you walk along the piazza, you gaze over to the Cathedral and feel the peace that such a beautiful building can bring, of course you are window shopping as well, so peace is well received.

St. Gemma's cathedral

by gemmarlv

If you are Catholic and have heard St. Gemma you might want to go check out the Cathedral dedicated to her. It is a modern church as she is a new saint, but it is still pretty. It is actually outside of the walls. The Church of San Michele had a map that led us to her Cathedral. It is a straight shot when you find the street that leads you out of the city walls.
