by Capenycmaui

Hi Folks.....
Will be in Lucca on July 7th to see Clapton. Can anyone recommend a good hotel that's reasonable near the Piazza Napoleone? Any must have restaurants and bars suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well....
Feel free to ask me any NYC questions if you have any....
Sincere thanks...Ian

Hi Ian,

There are plenty of hotels - some rather expensive though near the Plaza Napoleone ...

if you don't mind walking (its 2km ) a bit... here is one that is rather unique...

Hi,
If you want to be really close to the concert then stay at Hotel Universo. It's right on Piazza Napoleone which is in the center of the old city.
The area is full of restaurants and bars within 2 min of the hotel.
Cheers!!!

Thanks very much for the info. We're now booking at the Universo. Which by the way,the people we dealt with on the phone there couldn't have been nicer....

Travel Tips for Lucca

September Celebrations: Markets

by illudiumqh36

In the weekends and on the 12th and 13th there is a market in the open in Borgo Giannotti and adjacent zone up to the Sport Palace. Food, clothes, kitchen stuff, tiny animals, handcrafts, shoes, and whatever you need is sold in this area just outside Porta Santa Maria.

Antique Market

by illudiumqh36 about Antique Market

Every third weekend of the month in old town in the area included by Piazza Grande, Piazza San Martino, Piazza San Giusto and Piazza Bernardini there is the antique market.
Furnitures, paintings, and other old goods are sold in the open by small stall.

The oldest "Osteria" in town

by illudiumqh36 about Osteria da Baralla

This is the oldest "osteria" in the old town.
The atmosphere is very old-fashioned for it is in an old house on the external ring of Piazza dell'Anfiteatro.
They serve typical and very traditional dishes of Lucca (some of them are very rare to find in a restaurant in old town).

The church of San Michele in Foro

by maritagnes

The church of San Michele in Foro, raised in the 12th Century, is situated on the medieval piazza San Michele.
The facade of this extraordinarily beautiful church consists of five rows of columns - each single column different.

Piazza Anfiteatro

by HORSCHECK

The oval Piazza Anfiteatro used to be a Roman amphitheater. During medieval times, houses were built on the Roman remains; later from 1830 the area was used as a marketplace. Nowadays it is a nice meeting point for both locals and tourists.
