Cypress lined road near La Foce
It is a few minutes later and the sun has already set. All I can see is the silhouettes of the cypress trees in the distance.
The most chances to find these beautiful cypress roads are in central Tuscany, around Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino, south of Siena. I saw this particular road in southern Tuscany, just south of Pienza, near the La Foce estate.
A warm day in Montepulciano
This was our second full day in Tuscany. We visited Montepulciano in the morning. Free parking was easily found in a lot below the walls. We entered at the north end at Porta al Prato and walked the length of the town past the tower house and Sant' Agostino. We wandered into shops, buying peaches and cherries and eventually made our way up to Piazza Grande.
We climbed the tower of Palazzo Communale and took pictures of the rooftops. Check the travelogue for more pictures.
Afterward we did some wine tasting at Palazzo Cantucci and then found a great little panini shop on Via di San Donato. We picknicked in the shade on the grounds of the Fortezza before making our way back to Pienza to swim and rest.
