Travel Tips for Montepulciano

Tuscany

by sim1

Montepulciano is located in the beautiful region of Tuscany. This part of Italy combines wonderful hilly landscapes with picturesque historic villages, often located on some idyllic hilltop.Of course some Tuscany also has some delicious food and wine to offer. No wonder that this region is so popular. And that is actually its main disadvantages. The region is not 'unspoiled' anymore and during high season it can be very busy. But having said that, it is and will be a lovely spot to visit.

Here are some places I've visited over the years in Tuscany and might give you some suggestions for yourself when visiting this part of Italy:

Arezzo
Borgo a Mozzano
Montalcino
Monte Argentario
Montepulciano
Monteriggioni
Pisa
Pitigliano
San Gimignano
Saturnia
Siena
Sovana

Montepulciano - home of Vino Nobile!

by travelrabbit

Yet another of many awesome hill towns dotting the Tuscan landscape, Montepulciano is a great find. Lots of shops, restaurants and walking. Let me reiterate that last part. From the time you walk through the main gate it's mostly uphill, although there are several stretches which level off, but definitely bring some good walking shoes!

"You are here!"

This is the main portal right next to the parking area. I'm sure there are other entrances but most traffic will be directed to a large lot around the corner from this one.

"Shopping extravaganza"

Montepulciano seemed rather large to me for a hilltown. There were many long stretches of street that gave way to shop after shop, restaurants and cafes. It was definitely fun to see what was waiting around the next corner.
