by tuille

PLEASE HELP!! I HAVE LIMITED TIME TO ORGANIZE A 8-DAY TOUR AROUND UMBRIA AND TUSCANY. EXCLUDING FLORENCE, THAT WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO, WHAT TO SEE, WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO STAY?? THANX
PS-I REALIZE 8 DAYS IS NOTHING. SIENNA, LUCCA, PERUGIA AND ASSISI I THINK ARE MUST DOS. WHAT ABOUT THE BEATIFUL VILLAGES OF THE COUNTRYSIDE?? THIS IS WHAT I NEED UR HELP FOR..

First question: where will you be based/flying into?

Second question: how will you be getting around?

leics' question is very appropriate. As a matter of facts, you will move much more easily by car than by public transport, especially in Umbria.
I have just been in Tuscany and visited San Gimignano (UNESCO), Volterra (Etruscan town), Poggibonsi (where we stayed at the hotel), Monteriggioni (still fortified town), Colle Val D'Elsa and Certaldo (Boccaccio's hometown).
You probably won't be able to see all of them, but I suggest you'd go to Volterra at least. San Gimignano is very touristy, so I didn't like it that much even if it is very beautiful.
In Umbria, you should also consider Spoleto, at least.

In Umbria:
Gubbio, Spello and Trevi, in addition to Michele's suggestion for Spoleto.

Hi,
I suggest to consider Montepulciano as base because there are several places to stay and it is a superb location to visit what you are looking for:
siena one hour by car
Assisi one hour and 30
Perugia one hour
plus several other hill towns as Pienza, montalcino, Monticchiello, bagno vignoni
Where to stay: visit montepulciano.com
montorio.com
villapoggiano.com
cioa and good luck
