Large restaurant with nice garden terrace. Food was not especially great, service was rather bad.
Expensive place, especially their wines!
Public: mostly wealthy tourists who stay in the Picollo Castello Hotel. I don't remember what I have eaten, so probably nothing special.
I vividly remember when I was taking this picture. A couple of aging locals were checking me out from (a) behind a fence and (b) behind a window. I undoubtedly represented the highlight of the day which will confirm my earlier comments that there's not a lot of this village.
The walls, under reconstruction whilst I was there, were the feature for me of the Il Piccolo Castello architecture.
The main gate "Pombatoio", meaning "to plunge" had a hole to pour hot liquid down on invaders as well as an iron gate to bar entry.
Haven't been in this place for maybe seven years, but when I last went the food was of the very traditional type, and cheap too! The ambience was cosy, if not luxurious, and the service polite and friendly.
I hear from friends that the place is still good but try it at your own risk since Monteriggioni has become much more touristy in recent years, and that usually means the food turns to the worse. I remember having a good ribollita (bread and vegetable soup) but I don't know what they serve nowadays.
