It was closed when we got there, but I can imagine it is worth a tour inside. In spite of the dirty appearance outside, I would hope the artifacts are well maintained.
The town was under control of many countries over the years; Spanish, Austrians, French because it was a strong point to control water traffic in area and the Tyreann Sea

The town was an Etruscan settlement and Romans got control in 232 BC. The Aldobrandeschi family held control until 124th century, and then Siena took over. That was lost at times to foreigners invading to take control of the territory.
