Noble descent... two Popes but with a double 'c': Piccolomini, an ancien family from Siena.
A history of Piccolomini family: (sorry, it's in Italian)

Travel Tips for Pienza

The Val d'Orcia

by RoyJava

This valley in Tuscany is not only a place full of poetry and naturally happy people. A lot of history is there next to human relationship that made this area to a top quality place of ancient Rome, named
the Francigena and Val d'Orcia.

There is the beautiful light, for fashion pics a must. And the incredible views with empty spaces, where solitude creates a bizar sense of pleasure. See the hills, of never-ending slopes, and the silver riverbanks... unbelievable! The beauty of the landscape reminds of the purity of a lady. Made-up in a very natural way, her long hair waving in the wind, dancing in a sensual move and observed in a prudent bright look by her admirer ...

Thanks & Welcome Val d'Orcia

Blessing of the Animals

by kathymof

It was a special day when we were in Pienza as they were having a Blessing of the Animals in the plaza in front of the Duomo Santa Maria Assunta. All sorts of animals were being brought for a blessing. One little girl did not have a pet so she brought her stuffed animal. It was a wonderful local tradition that we were able to observe. I had pictures of my four footed kids who were at home so they got to participate in a virtual way.

PIAZZA PIO II

by RoyJava

You cannot miss the center square of Pienza, Tuscany. Risen between 1459 and 1462 through will of Pope Pius II (PIO II) Pienza got famous of its most illustrious humanists of the time, respecting the rules of Renaissance art ...

So Piazza Pio II, the centre square of the town, is enclosed around itself by all Pienza’s major buildings: Palazzo Piccolomini, Palazzo Borgia, Palazzo Comunale and the Cathedral. We felt like descendants of the ancient spirits ... like home sweet home! We had a great job, a lot of fun, playing around and enjoying the historical piazza ... a wonderful experience!

Chiesa di San Francesco

by Cristian_Uluru

The church of St. Francis was built at the end of the twelfth century. The facade is very simple and it has got only a door with oculo. The inside preserve rests of frescos of the thirteenth century, while the decorations of the apse are attirbuited to Cristoforo di Bindaccio.

Italy's Most Beautiful Spot

"Tuscany - Conifers & Hills"

Tuscany (Toscana in Dutch) is one of Italy's world famous regions. Tuscany, with its fairy-tale-like, sloping landscapes, moving from mountain to the sea. Tuscany, with its centres filled with museums next to historical buildings and cathedrals, romantic streets in towns like at Florence, Pisa, Sienna. And the ancient Etruscan & Roman ruins are legendary!

I stayed at Pienza; a lovely little town near Siena known for its panoramic location on the hills of Val d'Orcia. It lies on two slopes of the valley, formed by the river Tresa. The municipal territory of Pienza (122.53 square kilometers) contains preciously rare and beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture. Thanks to its position, Pienza held great importance during the Middle Ages. Thanks to its well-known beauty we produced a gorgeous fashion catalogue ...

I have to go back one day for sure ...
thanks for visiting.
