Do you have to book to climb the pisa´s tower?

In order to guarentee that you can do the climb on the day and time you want, bookings are essential. The bookings are not open until about 45 days before the date you want. I think they do hold slots for those without bookings, but if time is short then its risky, so suggest you book.

Bascially, yes.

Tour groups with pre-booked time slots visit every day (all through the year), there are limits to how many people can go up the tower at one time (30) and times of access are fixed.

So if you want to be certain book your ticket online in advance. The official site (in English) is here:

Travel Tips for Pisa

try original Italian pisa! :)...

by Daivute

try original Italian pisa! :) It's delicious! And Italians are such a nice people, and very big talkers :) They are funny over there. Just how they talk to you, they don't care that you don't understand their language, your problem! But it's not because they are trying to be mean, it's just the way they are :)

Pisa Tip

learning about the Campanile ( Leaning Tower ) and how it came to lean as much as it has with time . Since it sits upon a large loop of the Arno and is about 12 km from the sea , this makes the ground underneath the tower very soft - lacking in a strong foundation . What I had also learned was that the base was made too small to hold the weight of such a tall building causing the weight to be unevenly distributed , just another reason for its lean .

Holding up the tower

by croisbeauty

It is very funny observing numerous tourists, of all ages, trying to capture the photo in which they are pretending to keep the Tower of falling down. I didn't try to do it, although I admit, the photo if captured in good position, must be attractive and very dear memory to the visitors.

Modern art in an old city

by travelrabbit

If you're one for pop cultural art than this may be of interest to you. On the entire side of one building there is mural from the late Keith Haring. Don't know who he is? Look at the mural and I bet you recognize his iconic, simplified shapes from somewhere. The amazing part is that it was done in 1987, I believe, and there isn't a single mark of graffiti on it. Worth a look.

Just west of the entrance to the Corsa d'Italia in a tiny bicycle parking area. You cannot see it from the street so you'll have to walk around the building to catch a glimpse.

Volterra

by alemir82

Volterra has its roots in three thousand years of history, visible in the ancient city walls, the imposing Porta all’Arco, the Necropolis and the archeological remains conserved in the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci. Some objects bear testimony of the Etruscan period, like the Ombra della Sera, the funerary urns and the finely crafted jewellery. The Theatre of Vallebona dates back the period of Augustus and shows the importance of Volterra under Roman domination. Alabaster crafts represent another point of great interest. Visitors can enjoy the numerous exhibitions and workshops throughout the city.
