Pisa

Hi
I'm arriving at Pisa airport at 16:45 and my train leaves to Monterosso Cinque Terre at 19.36. Would l have enough time to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I just want to take photos, as well l'm traveling with 2 children. Should l change my train ticket and stay there the night?
Thank you

You would probably have time to go to the Tower by taxi or evn bus and have a wander around. I doubt that you would have time to climb to the top of it as they have certain times for that. The cathedral there is well worth a look as well, and you should easily find a taxi to take you back to the train, we did. Also there is a left luggage facility at the train station at Pisa, if you have luggage you want to get rid of before setting off to the Tower.

You have almost 3 hours and thats enough for a first glance at Pisa:
Busline No. 3 takes you from the train-station in Pisa within 5 minutes to 'Piazza dei Miracoli'
It certainly makes sense to take the bus, when you have just a short time in Pisa.
But when you walk, you will not miss the plenty of great little works of art at many places in the old town.
The walk will take around 20 minutes one way and when you get out of the station you simply head first towards the monument (I think V.Emanuel) in front of the station and then always straight on, through shoping-streets and across a bridge
sights that are close to the path you are walking:
Santa Maria della Spina
wonderful gothic church directely at the river that you are crossing, BUT a few meters from your path

You won't be out of the airport much before 17.30, so allow for that,
Take the LAM Rossa bus or bus 21 direct from the airport to the Camp dei Miracoli ('Torre'). Timetables here:

Access to the Tower is tightly controlled, and if you want to climb it you would be best to buy your tickets online in advance. This is the official website (in English):
http://www.opapisa.it/en/plan-your-visit/practical-information/opening-hours.html
From the Campo dei Miracoli you can take bus 21 or a taxi back to Pisa Centrale station (or walk, because Pisa is much more than its Tower.....allow at least 30 mins). Allow enough time for bus or taxi: traffic can be busy at that time of day.
Travel Tips for Pisa
Chiesa Santa Maria della Spina

This little dollhouse duomo on the edge of the Arno charmed me. Pisa in April is simply wonderful, not too crowded, Campo dei Miracoli of course notwithstanding. Toward the old wall from the Baptistry you can get into an impromptu calcio friendly with the locals though.

See the cathedral area. I don't know why it's so famous, I wasn't all that impressed by the tower or the town itself. But it's worth the trip if you're in Florence because it's only about a 2 hour train ride.

See the candlelit city. During a festival, the people of Pisa line the streets and church with candles. They turn off all the light of the city and just let it be lit all by candles.

Public water-closet
by croisbeauty
Perhaps it might look irrelevant for a tourist tip but I think it is very useful and important. When strolling around, sometimes for hours, we all have certain needs but not always easy to do it. Among many other things, which one town offers to its visitors, public toilet is probably the rarest one. When in Pisa, you wont have this problem because the public water-closet is handy, situated under the loggia in Piazza XX Settembre.
Santa Maria della Spina
by filipdebont
If you cross the Arno River via the Ponte Solferino, you can not miss this Santa Maria della Spina.
This beautiful marble chapel is located along the Arno River.
This chapel thanks its name on a relic, a Spine (spina) from Christ's Crown of Thorns.
But nowadays this Spine is not kept in this Chapel but in the Santa Chiara near the Duomo.
