Budget accomodation.

by Maurizioago

Could you recommend a bed and breakfast, a guesthouse, or hotel in Pisa? I could pay around 40/45 euros per night for a single room; breakfast included.

Thanks!

I stayed at the Hotel La Pace, which was fine and very conveniently located. There's a tip/review on my Pisa pages.

But I'm not sure it's within your budget in the summer (I visited in late October).

I found it on www.venere.com and suggest you check their Pisa pages for what's avilable when you want to visit.

Travel Tips for Pisa

Arno River

by filipdebont

Coming from Pisa Centrale (station), it was only a short walk towards the Arno River.

The street towards the River was very quiet, maybe because it was Sunday morning.

From one of the bridges which was crossing the Arno River I had this splendid view. the beautiful and colourful houses along the River Arno.

Go and see the Baptistry...

by rozehill

Go and see the Baptistry begun in the year 1153,
This cylindrical baptistry is 116 feet in diameter and about 180 feet high. The lower register of blind arcades repeats the pattern of the cathedral and campanile. Designed later, however, this shows the change from Romanesque to Gothic style architecture, the second and fourth tiers have pointed, not round arches.

Pisa Tip

by Krystynn

Pisa's 3 most important not-to-be-missed sights are the CATHEDRAL, the BAPTISTERY and the BELL TOWER. Together, they seem to float regally on one of the best lawns in Italy! I'm serious. Just take a look at the grass and you'd know what I mean.

Incidentally, the PIAZZA DEL DUOMO was also called the CAMPO DEI MIRACOLI (I think it means the 'Field of Miracles' in English) for the sheer
grandness of the entire thing! What do you think?

Candlelight (Luminara)

by alemir82

This event takes place on the eve of the patron saint's feast day (June 16) and transforms the lungarni into a phantasmagoric fairy-tale setting. The architectural details of the palaces , windows, cornices, balconies the parapets of the river and the bridges glow in the reflected light of over 70,000 (lumini) (small glass lamps burning oil or wax) while thousands of lighted candles float on the waters of the Arno. Sham architecture (machines) and a firework spectacle at the Cittadella Vecchia make this event, which dates back to 1688, even more fascinating

Santa Caterina

by leics

Dating from 1251 (although suffering a fire in 1651), this church is in the process of being restored.......a strangely empty place, but one which, nevertheless, retains its atmosphere.

There is a tomb by Andrea Pisano, and a painting of St Thomas Aquinas from the 14th centrury, as well as other paintings and sculptures. A Dominican church originally, the wooden pulpit is said to be the one from which St Thomas preached.

You can still see the frescoes and wall-painting in some parts......beautiful black-and-white arches at the sides.....
