More about Grand Hotel Bonanno
Grand Hotel Bonanno is great!
by TripAdvisor Member Luder
Great place to stay if you are a tourist. Not far from the sights and it is a nice walk to burn off all that Italian food. The hotel staff was great and very helpful. They gave us a map to help us find our way around and recommended a few restaraunts and where to find Pisa night life. We were 3 women staying for 2 nights and felt completely safe to go out after dark and walk to town, no problems at all. I will admit it would be nice if the underpass had lights in it after dark. The Buffett in the mornings was very nice, it had bacon and scrambled eggs and a variety of other cold things.
Ok for a night

Businesslike hotel that looks ok, but actually isnt. The hotel is not "conveniently located", it is actually way out of the center, compared to other Pisa hotels. It is set in an industrial area.
Rooms are spartan, with the worst beds I ever slept in (hard, small, uncomfortable) and I am not picky. Bathroom is complete, but the fittings are cheap. It feels cheap but alas it isnt that cheap.
Everything is extra. Wireless Internet was € 32 per day (really!) or €5,- for 30 minutes.
Good points: lots of parking space and the most TV channels I ever had in a hotel. So if you want 890 channels (!) go here. Otherwise: please think again.
Lovely place

Hi:
We were at this hotel for 3 days and since the begining everything was good. They picked us up from the airport and the assitance was really good. The guy in the reception was helpfull and kind.
The rooms are not big but enought for a couple. They are clean with air conditioned, TV and a mini bar....the things inside it have the same price like outside.
Really 10 minutes walking to the Tower and to the centro. Pisa is nice and quiet...and safe.
If i ever come back i will stay at the same hotel.
Very noisy location

Room and hotel were very clean and excellent in appearance. The room was good sized and the bathroom as well. The food in the restaurant was not basic menu food and done apparently by a chef with exquisite tastes. His/her presentations were very diiferent than we have experienced before, but good flavor. Restaurant was high average to above average cost for a meal. The breakfast was high average with plenty of variety of food.
The desk staff were polite and most willing to answer questions and to help us when they could.
The hotel's biggest drawback and the one that bothered us the most was the noise of the railroad which was right next to it and the road as well. If the windows were open, the noise was extremely irritating and yet with the windows closed it became warm since we could not figure our how to turn off the heat. There were also no instructions as to how to operate the tv to change langurages and consequently we were unable to do so.
We also had some trouble locating the hotel.
We would not recommend this hotel to friends.
Like it so much, going back

No sure what to expect before we arrived, but we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was quiet, clean, nicely decorated and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was also very good. The loaction of the hotel is close to the city centre, although the 800m to the Leaning Tower is perhaps exaggerated! Close none-the-less and easy to walk. The hotel is also ideally situated for the Pisa San Rossore train station which takes you direct to Florence in about an hour. We spent 2 nights at the hotel and spent 1 day in Pisa and 1 in Florence. Absolutely loved it and we are all going back next month. Travelled with 2 young children who also enjoyed the hotel and the sightseeing. Hotel only 10 minutes from the airport and it only costs around 10 Euros to get to the hotel. Highly recommend it.
Best Hotel In Pisa

This hotel was perfect, ten minutes from airport, taxi ten euro.Room was really nice with plasma tv on wall(bbc world only english channel),air conditioning, electric blind, king size bed, good size bathroom are just a few of many good points. the staff where always very helpful, and the food from the restaurant was te best we had on our trip.Good Hotel for disabled or people with walking difficulties, good size lift to rooms. On some advertisements it says the hotel is 500 metres from leaning tower of pisa which is incorrect its roughly 1500 metres (ten minute walk).Warning do not stay more than two days if you are going for the sites as all the of them are very close to one another
Nice hotel, recommended, but some things to watch out for...

Location is really good. You'll be at the Tower in a 10 - 15 minute walk. You'll find a decent restaurant inside.
Hotel is nice and they offer standard amenities. Traveling alone, I felt very safe.
It's entirely too near the train station. Ask for a room away from the tracks or you'll think you're about to become a hobo.
The beds are softer than concrete, but not softer than a camping matress over bare ground.
Good value comfortable hotel

Stayed 2 nights in Pisa for a valentine trip. Booked the hotel via Expedia for £60 per night B&B which considering the standard of accommodation and quality of service is excellent value. Walking distance from the tower and duomo etc however there is certainly more to explore in Pisa like the riverside mansions, pick up a Pisa city guide from the hotel for 4 euro, very good. We went to Florence on a day trip on the train, 10 euro return, again excellent value. Florence will blow you away, but a day is really not enough time to explore all it has to offer. Finally we enjoyed the best italian meal we have ever had at a tiny tratorria tucked away near the tower, sorry I can't remember it's name, having said that we ate pizza at one the pizzerias near the tourist area and again the food was very good.
Very clean, quiet, new - but 3* not 4*

In Italy you know in advance that you pick a hotel with one star more than you would like - the standards in Italy are simply slightly lower. I think that is the only reason why Bonanno does not always get good ratings: people’s expectations. Expect a 3* and you will be very pleased. We paid 125 pounds for 2 nights B&B which was good value for that area as far as we can tell.
The location: ten minute taxidrive from the airport (about 8.50 EUR), a nice and easy ten minute walk from the Tower. Pisa is mostly flat and many pedestrian zones, so easy to walk. Residential area, some traffic but excellent insulation so had no problems with noise. Nice view on the snow-capped mountains and you could just see the tip of the Baptistero.
Facilities: Good choice in breakfast buffet for continental standards. If you need your full English to wake up, go elsewhere. Some scrambled eggs & bacon, everything else cold but of very good quality, the pastries and bread were fantastic and very fresh. Free coffee from the espresso machine.
Room: not too big but adequate with little balcony, nice power shower, exceptionally clean, lovely big beds not too soft, plasma TV with 234 (really true!) tv channels including many English spoken; heat/cool installation.
Staff: very helpful and efficient, all were happy speaking Italian and English with me.
Pisa: do not go to the Roman ships excavation site, there is not that much to see and the tour is absolutely endless. Even stating back problems they would not let me break off the tour and was nearly bored to death. Do go to the Campo dei Miracoli and walk around the centre (it’s not that big and lovely to walk), have coffee and pastries at Salza (slightly expensive but worth it), icecream at Botteglia where Borgo Stretto meets the Arno, dinner at La Buca (opposite the Tower you see a few restaurants, it's the one in the kind of dead-end street) but have pasta, not pizza. Try the Gnocchi Pesto, they were out of this world. Nightlife could not be found when we were there, just sip wine on one of the terraces near the Tower.
