Jolly hotel, unhappy guests

In two words: the worst. Don't let the name fool you nor the sleek modern interiors - this hotel seems to relish the way it makes guests as disdainful and as uncomfortable as they could. How could a major hotel group in Italy get it so wrong? I am baffled myself.

It started with the room. Yes, it's nice and sleek and modern (see pictures) but didn't know what I was in for, until around 6:30 am, the following day. The walls were paper thin, that I realized, and being situated next to the lifts, that means I hear every movement of the lift! Calling the front desk a few number of times, no one seems to bother to answer the phone! I had no choice but to go down in my pjs and find out what's going on. Oh there is the front desk staff sitting pretty oblivious to the ringing phone. Unbelievable!

A day before that, we've been advised that there are some maintenance works going on, and there won't be power and water till 5 pm. Thought it was alright since I was off to Lucca the whole day and was planning to be back around 6 pm. Arriving from Lucca cold, wet, and urgently needing to use the john, the maintenance works took longer than expected, and it wasn't until 7 pm that I was able to use my room, and the john! I told them about my stomach discomfort, but all they could offer was a "sorry, sir." No, not good enough!

Totally disssatisfied, I asked for a discount upon check-out, and was offered 7 euros off my bill. Told them if they could do better than that, again, another half-hearted "sorry, sir." Totally, disgusted, I gave the guy a 10 euro TIP to make himself feel better, after all the troubles I've caused them.

Hope they were happy with that. Never again, Jolly Hotel.

Jolly Hotel Cavalieri

Nice large hotel right opposite the railway station. Room was a tad on the small side but nicely appointed with a good sized bathroom with all the usual mod-cons. Breakfast was excellent with all sorts of cereals, breads, jams etc. Only downside is that it's a good mile or so walk to the leaning tower but at least you'll get to see the rest of the town on the way there!
