 | Pisa Park Hotel California Reviews | Tips 1 - 3 of 3 | | | | | | Park Hotel California: All you need for a short stay.
| | | | |
The hotel is situated out of the centre of Pisa, a 13 euro taxi ride or 85 cent bus ride from the airport....take the number 1 San Jacopo bus and get off opposite the large Leclerc supermarket in Madonna del Aqua (you can't miss it!). The hotel is about 200m further on. We arrived early, but were able to leave our luggage and get back on the bus, in the same direction (it makes a round trip) to the main Piazza to see the tower, duomo, etc. On our return we were directed to our room which was in one of several bungalow type buildings which contained 6 rooms in each. We had booked a twin room and were pleasantly surprised to have been given a triple. The mini bar was well stocked, but we were on a budget and had bought drinks and snacks in the supermarket at the bus stop. The bathroom was compact but had everything we needed - an excellent shower and a large mirror...essential for us ladies!! We were disappointed that the restaurant in the hotel was not open when we were there...although it did seem a bit pricey for us. But this meant that we discovered Andreas Pizzeria and Trattoria, which was opposite the bus stop between the supermarket and the camper van place. The food and wine was excellent as was the service and the price!! We would recommend it to everyone. The reception staff at the hotel were helpful and check in and out was painless. Buy your bus tickets from them, you cannot buy them on the bus. The breakfast was served in the same building as reception. There was plenty of choice - fruit, cereal, rolls, ham, cheese, croissants, cakes, excellent coffee ( even if from a machine) etc. If you wished you could order a la carte, but I couldn,t see the need. We would recommend this hotel for a place to sleep, wash, breakfast and then go out for the day....what else have you come to tuscany for?

 | | | | Park Hotel California: BEST AVOIDED
| | | | |
At the end of our week in Florence we decided to stay at this hotel to be handy to a morning flight home. We arrived by taxi from the station, cost 17 euros, at 2.30pm and were advised our rooms were not yet ready. Fair enough, we would have a drink and wait. The problem was that the hotel, allegedly a four star, was effectively closed until 7.30 and we couldn't even get a glass of water! They suggested we relax by the pool, in our travelling clothes but we only found 5 occupied loungers and a few chairs, no refreshments, no towels and the only access by a staircase straight to a small hygiene pool. Perfect for ruining your shoes! The nearest bar/ice cream parlour was 200 metres away along a sloping verge on a very busy road. The room, in a motel style, set up in blocks of 6 or so, could at best be described as barely two star standard, stank of insect repellent but was clean. The minibar had one bottle of water, one beer and two cans of fruit juice. In temperatures of 38 to 41 degrees barely enough for one person for one hour! Security-The keys were all the same, uncut blanks. We experimented and opened every door in our block with one key! You had to pay a security deposit or 25 euros to use the room safe. They have clearly franchised out the restaurant, bar and kitchen, hence no service during the day. Breakfast was a farce of tea or coffee from a machine, one croissant rationed per person, ample watery juice and stale bread, roll and jam. Every other item cost 2 to 3 euros and was skimpy to say the least. You would pay at least 10 euros for anything resembling a breakfast in a modest B&B. We felt really sorry for the younger people and those with kids staying there, would NEVER go back and feel this is easily the WORST Hotel we have ever stayed in, anywhere PS The place was crawling with ants and the broken sewer pipe outside our room didn't help either. | | | | Park Hotel California: Comfortable hotel with a decent pool
| | | | |
After reading some of the reviews I was a little wary about staying here, so prepared for the worst we arrived to be greeted by friendly hotel staff who all spoke enough English to make check in a simple affair. The rooms are arranged in blocks around the main building, all of which appear slightly different - we had two rooms in the last block, block 'M'. The rooms were not overly generous on space, granted, but they were more than adequate for a three night stay. The saving grace was the air conditioning-cum-heating unit which could kick out a fair breeze of ice cold air when required. The bathrooms were more 'wet rooms' with an uncontained shower in the corner and no bath, but again this was perfectly adequate providing you didn't leave anything lying on the floor which wasn't waterproof. Overall the block was clean and each room contained a fridge with complimentary bottled water which was most welcome after a day by the pool or looking at the local sights. The hotel is a little way out of town, although the LAM Rossa bus was very convenient for travelling during the day - up until about 8pm, with the stop being about 50 yards from the hotel. It would have been easier if there was a path along that stretch of road, but that's more a complaint with Italy than the hotel. The supermarket opposite the bus stop was also very handy.
The best bit about the hotel was the 25m pool, which was ideal for the location - we spent most of the daytime sat by it, and have the sunburn to prove it.
