Visiting Pisa
by hellothere2008
Hi,
We are planning to visit Pisa end of September.
If we plan to be in Pisa around 2 PM, do you think we can see Pisa to a decent extent from 2 PM?
Will it become dark early in end of September?
Or do you advice me to be in Pisa early morning.
As we are planning to spend first half of the day in Florence, we can be in Pisa only at 2 PM and we need to catch our return flight next day at 12PM.
So please advice us if this is OK and what all best places in Pisa I can visit from 2 PM until next day 10AM?

You will be able to see enough of Pisa if you arrive at 2pm.
It won't get dark until early evening.
You will find train times and fares from Florence in English here:
http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html
It is about 25 minutes walk from Pisa Centrale station to the Campo dei Miracoli (for the Tower, Duomo, Camposanto) or you can get bus or taxi from outside the station.
My Pisa pages have infor on other things in Pisa to see and enjoy...there are actually 3 leaning towers, for a start! :-)

will give you sunrise and sunset times for places all over the world, including Florence (Firenze).
Sunset is around 7pm at the end of September.

I agree that there is not a whole lot special to see in Pisa, so one afternoon could suffice. But maybe you are cutting your time too short in Florence?? it may be much more satisfying to stay in Florence for those extra few hours, as there is so much of wonderful ambience there! in addition to the actual museums, Duomo, etc.

the best light to take photos of the tower is afternoon, as the light goes down on the beach side and it enlightens the tower.
It is dark around 9pm
if you need more infos on pisa, just let me know, I work 5 minutes from the tower so i know a lot of nicd cafè, restaurants etc
ciao

Travel Tips for Pisa
TOWER NOW STRAIGHT, BUT CHURCH LEANING.
by JohnnySpangles
Hundreds of tourist trips to Pisa have been cancelled since last week's geological shift miraculously straightened up the tower... Leaning tower plaster model sellers have been bankrupted overnight and thousands of their dependents face starvation.
More Places to Visit in Pisa

There are other great buildings in Pisa that I'm sorry I didn't have time to see.
Museo del'Opera that is listed as an excellent modern museum.
A tiny church called Santa Maria della Spina built between 1230 and 1323.
A large university the Scuola Normale Superiore built in 1561. This little city is filled with amazing architecture.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
by KiNyA
Begun in 1173, the tower began to tip sideways before the 3rd storey was completed. Even so, construction continued until its cempletion in 1350. Recently the tilt has increased, so visiting tower is limited and not many people can go inside (inless if you've got a lot of time...).
Packing List
by Patricialuv
Depends how long you will stay in Pisa (from 1-3 days) for example, just a simple backpack will do.
For more than a week, bring a small luggage Always bring comfortable shoes, long pants/skirts, and long sleeved shirts, besides summer clothes (for the summer weather, of course) always bring your indispensible first aid kit, no matter where you go. That's a must.
Palazzo Borgo
by globetrott
This is now Palazzo Borgo in daylight, and I have to say I really like that very special kind of architecture.
There is a bank in this house and private appartments, so you are not able to enter it, but you may of course take a picture from outside !
This building is in the street "Borgo Stretto", close to Ponte d.Mezzo
Questions and Answers
Q: Luggage storage "Are there luggage lockers or other short term luggage storage at Pisa Centrale railway station, or nearby ?"
A: "Yes. Pisa Centrale station (Pisa has two stations) has a staffed left luggage facility, not..."
