Transport around Pisa/Tuscany

by NicSurf7

Hi! I'm travelling to Tuscany to a wedding and will be flying into Pisa.

Has anyone hired a moped/scooter over there? I'm only there for 3 days and was just wondering if anyone knows where I could look to hire a scooter and approx how much this would cost for the three days?

Would really appreciate any help with this.

Thanks guys! :)

It is not something I could recommend, unless you are very experienced in riding scooters and used to Italian traffic.

There are excellent train and bus services from Pisa to almost everywhere you may want to visit. Train ticket machines are easy to use and have English options and fares are remarkably reasonable.

For train times, details and fares in English:

http://www.trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

For buses in and from Pisa:

http://www.cpt.pisa.it/orari.htm

If you want to visit specific places post again and we can give you train/bus timetables and info.

This Pisa hotel site quotes 90 euro for 3 days' hire:

It would be hard to spend 90 euro on bus/train fares over 3 days.

Travel Tips for Pisa

Campo dei Miracoli

by tompt

All major attractions in Pisa can be found at the Campo dei Miracoli: the baptistery, the church, the tower, the monumental graveyard, and two museums.

Town Ramparts

by filipdebont

In the past Pisa was a blooming trade centre. In fact it was a flourishing harbour city.

But due to the sanding of the River Arno and the battles with groups from Genoa, Firenze and Milan, Pisa lost its power.

Near the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II you can still see parts of the former town ramparts.

Baptistry

by tompt

Also at the Campo dei Miracoli at the other side of the Duomo you will find the Bapstistry (1152-1284).
The Baptistry has a circular shape, a circumference of 107 metres and a total height of 55 metres, excluding the statue on top.

The best recommendation that I can offer you is to make Pisa as a short stopover trip on your way to the city of Florence. Alternatively, you can make Florence (Firenze) your base and like what I suggested above, hop onto the train to Pisa. There's really nothing much to do here besides admiring the leaning tower... if you know what I mean. :-)

Anyhow, have a great trip to Pisa.
