Piazza dei Cavalieri- Palazzo dell'orologio
Piazza dei Cavalieri was the center of the public life during the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages. When Cosimo I De' Medici created the order of Cavalieri di Santo Stefano he choosed as a seat this square. He ordered the restauration of the entire square to the famous architect Giorgio Vasari. One of the most impressive buildings of Piazza dei Cavalieri is the "Palazzo dell'orologio". In 1607 Vasari connected the Tower of Seven Lives and the Tower of Hunger, both prisons, to make a palace for the Knights of St Stephan.

Feel the contrast of green and light-grey colours. When you look at the green grass, you may wonder how it is occured, that this perfectly looking ground is so 'mild' that it is not able to keep buildings straight-standing. But it's the scientific part - this strange orientation of buildings is caused by unstable grounds. When the bell tower first started to fall, there were some attempts to stop this, and as a result of these attempt you can see that top part of the tower is not coaxial with the rest of it.
On the picture I'll try to explain this with gestures.
Ponte di mezzo
by Azhut
Pisa's oldest bridge over the Arno river connects Mezzogiorno, south of the river, with Tramontana in the north.
Teams of both sides battle on the last Sunday of June during the Gioco del Ponte, the Game of the Bridge, when a 7-tonne carriage is pushed over this bridge. This event has taken place since Medici times and continues in Renaissance costume.

Don't pay every single admission to the different monuments, in the main square there is a ticket office which offers you packages of the several sight seeings admissions at a price of course lower than the sum of the single ones.
The town walls
by croisbeauty
The old core of the town, todays city centre, was fortified by the massive and high walls, which are pretty well preserved. Even the city walls, in some segments, were built in so characteristic Romanesque - Pisan style. Medieval Pisa had very important role in controlling the waterways, making the town commercial emporium, and its inhabitants were ready to take to arms to defend its trade.
