MUSEO PIAGGIO
by globetrott
Pontedera is a place I saw accidentally in a brochure that I found in Pisa.
It was a few km off the road from Pisa to Siena. I never had a VESPA myself, BUT plenty of my travel-dreams had to do with such cheap means of transportation.
Herbert Tichy from Austria - who travelled through Asia by motorbike, and of course Heinrich Harrer - HE is the one who actually was the real person behind Brad Pitt in the movie "7 years in Tibet" and became the teacher of the Dalai Lamah during WW II.
VESPA 400
by globetrott
There is even a small car with 4 wheels, named Vespa 400 and similar to most common car in Italy of that time (Fiat 500 )
This Vespa-car had 2 seats only and obviously was NO big success, as families are mostly much bigger in Italy.
Australia - South Africa Overland
by globetrott
Another great itinerary for an overland tour from Australai to South-Africa, driving all the way over Asia, Middle east and Africa.
Just imagine the small space he (she/they?) had for the luggage, the tent, food, clothings, petrol...
These scooters used by globetrotters are displayed in the entrance of the museum - it seemed to me they were still too dusty for the museum :-))
And unfortunately there are no further infos, except the itineraries painted on the scooters...
