RE: FISHING?

by Zeuser

On my last visit to Italy, I searched high and low for recomendations on sport fishing locations, much to no avail. Ultimately, I ended up going Anchovy fishing in the wee hours near Santa Margherita. While it wasn't my first choice for fishing, I had never done it before and was worth the effort.

If you search the internet for Italian Sport Fishing Clubs, you will find many and can email them for recommendations. This is how I ultiamtely did find places to fish near Lucca. It helps to read read/write Italian, however, you could use a free on-line translation service such as Altavista to post your questions in Italian. Good luck and great fishing.

Travel Tips for San Gimignano

The City of Beautiful Towers

by KiNyA

The city of beautiful towers is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Tuscany. Its stunning skyline bristles with tall towers dating from the 13th century: 14 of the original 76 have survived. These windowless towers were built to serve both as private fortress and symbols of their owners' wealth.

The essence of the wine ...

by Docu2001

Late fall afternoon in Tuscany near the town of San Gimignano. We were five in our party, in that little Fiat. The sun had set as we rounded and rounded upwardly winding - when flames shot out into the new gray starless sky transformed into red black gold flame and smoke as white as an old mans beard. The farmers were burning a field … preparing it for the coming season. We wandered out of the car and among the fire. The farmers paid little mind as one of us began taking pictures of the fire and the shadows of workers in the smoke. That night we drank the local wine fresh from the fiasco. Each time I taste this wine I smell the smoke on the hillside and see my friends dancing in the firelight.

Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca and Torre Grossa

by gigina

The principal museum is the combined attraction of the Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca and Torre Grossa - Town Hall, Art Gallery and Great Tower (€5 admission charge, or €7.50 combined with the town's other museums). In Piazza del Duomo, this historic building houses a few interesting paintings, including some rather fun frescoes of knights jousting and Charles of Anjou chatting to his falconers. The most impressive experience, though, is provided by the tower, unobtrusively signposted off a museum stairway. The tallest tower in town at 54m, it has been gutted inside, and the stairs are a modern structure. Visitors should note that it's a stiff climb, and the very top section involves clambering up a ladder (mind your head at the top – you have to duck under the framework surrounding a monster bell). The views are splendid in every direction: lovely Tuscan hills, dotted with villages, villas and groves of trees.

The garden

by shivan

In top of the hille there's a beautiful garden to visit.
There a lovely sight of the surroundings here...

The tuscany landscape is well known (at least, according to what I know) all over the world. This one of the reasons for this fame.

Costarella

by croisbeauty

Torre Grossa is the highest tower of San Grimignano, 54 metres high, and the only one you can climb up. I didn't climb up because am not feeling very comfortable on such a high buildings. The best position to take the picture of entire tower is from Via Quercecchio. This part of the village is called Costarella.
