Good Location but only Fair Accommodation

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)

Finding a room close to the train station at a good price was a bit of a challenge in Siena. After searching for sometime, prior to leaving for Italy, I chose the B & B Camolia rather than going for a slightly higher priced Hotel Italia nearby. In retrospect, I should have booked at the hotel.

The Camolino is located a little over 500 meters from the Siena Train Station. However to get to the hotel you need to take a series of seven escalators up through a large shopping center. Once you exit the shopping center you turn left up to the next major street then go right. The Camolia is just a few meters down the street on the right hand side and is marked by a series of flags.

Check in was easy but the attendant was not particularly helpful. The room was on a second floor facing a busy street. The room was noisy but the traffic from the street could be drowned out by a sound machine that was brought from home. My biggest complaint was despite the fact that it was uneseasonably warm in Siena, the attendant refused to put on the a/c. With other comments from other hotel guests he promised to put it on the next day but the following day he refused to put it on again. So much for promises.

The two twins were comfortable. The shower worked well and provided plenty of hot water. However the hair dryer worked for a minute or two then cut out. There was a nice interior courtyard in the b and b.

Breakfast was poor compared to other b and b's in Italy. Just a few choices of cereal and some packaged pastries. Some form of juice and coffee were also provided.

Hotel staff provided some information but none of them were particularly helpful and at least one spoke neither Italian or English,

I booked this b and b through booking.com. I would have booked it directly with the b and b if they had a website. The hotel staff seemed to cater to the local residents in the area while not being particularly helpful to other guests.

We were there for two nights and paid 87 euros a night which was about 15% a night higher than other b and b's on our 25 day trip to Italy.

Unique Quality: The location is great for walking to downtown Siena. It is also very close to the train station.
