Banks in Siena

by lolly33

Are there many banks in the town of Siena and what are the opening hours/days?
I have tried to find out on a number of information sites but no luck.

There are plenty of banks in Siena and banking hours are the same as elsewhere in Italy, i.e. weekdays only, something like 9 till 3. However there are plenty of ATMs and I'm sure there are also bureaux de change.

Travel Tips for Siena

The Duomo

by KiNyA

Siena's Duomo was bulit in ages from 1136 to 1382. We were told it is one of the most spectacular in Italy.
It is build in Gothic style.
The most interesting I found the front facade, the belltower, and the unfinished nave. Clear blue sky, don't you think so?

Comfortable shoes

by micajo

Don't bring too many things in your bag cos you'll get tired since you need to walk a lot. Choose comfortable shoes since you need to walk a lot and there are lots of steps. Also bring an umbrella with you so you won't sing in the rain if it rains :) Camera is the most thing you need to bring with you cos there are a lot of things to see

How to get there

by Helga67

Siena is situated south of Firenze, in the middle of Tuscany. There is a highway (S2) going from Firenze to Siena and there are several other big roads leading to this city. When you are on the ring around Siena take exit Siena Ouest and follow the signs to (P) Stadio. This is the closest you can get with your car to the historical centre, which is car-free. Around Fortezza Medicea is enough space for your car to park.

Gelateria Brivido - Gelato!

by sue_stone about Gelateria Brivido

On our second visit to Siena we needed an afternoon sweet treat and decided to try the gelato from Gelateria Brivido, which is located close to Piazza del Campo.

It is just across the road from Gelateria La Costarella Caffe, and I have since found out that both places are owned by the same people - they are certainly on a good thing, both shops are in the perfect tourist catching location. Gelateria Brivido specialises in not just ordinary ice cream, but also sherbets and granita - fruity, icy style ice cream. Always boringly predictable, we stuck to the creamy variety - a couple of scoops each of coffee & hazelnut flavours gave us the sugar hit we were after.

The Duomo

by Herkbert

The facade of the Duomo was very impressive. You look and see the layers of marble, the carvings, and the statues and know this is someplace special. Then you walk inside and you see how special it really is. The striped marble, the stained glass windows, the chapels and the artwork is breath-taking.

There are many beautiful sites within the Duomo that you have to see to believe. I have two favorites that really caught me. The first is the Piccolomini Library. The library contained choral books, but even better, a fantastic series of paintings by Pinturicchio. The second was the dome itself.

You don't want to miss the opportunity to see this beautiful church.
