albergo bernini: the terrace

We stayed at this place because it advertised a great terrace.

Its in an old building with decent sized rooms and shared bathrooms.
The owner is very friendly and seems to do everything.
Theres a lot of nice areas to chill out in least of all the terrace which overlooks a church and cathedral.
The owner will allow u to bring wine to the terrace which we did and was a lovely setting.
Its 70euro a night incl tourist tax for a double. Breakfast is 3.50 for small (croissant, cake and tea/coffee) or 7.50 for something bigger.
Served on the terrace its worth it.
The only downside is being next to the church you get woken at 7am by the bloody loud bells!

Fattoria La Muraglia: a not so good experience

Coming from Firenze, we decided to stay here to visit some places in Tuscana. The place is not bad but
1) you still ear the motorway from the garden, so is not so quiet;
2) the rooms are nothing special and they are hot in summer;
3) one of our rooms - we were 5 persons - wasn't clean enough: dusty furniture, spider webs, toilet wasn't clean and there were almost not toilet paper;
4) the breakfast is to forget. I think is one of the worst breakfasts I had. When you expect, from an agrotourism place, local crunchy bread, you got plastic wrap supermarket toasts; when you expect local homemade jams and marmelades, you get plastic little packs of industrial made jams; when you expect local cheeses, you get nothing; when you expect a fruit juice, you get industrial juice; instead of a homemade cake, industrial cake; and the coffee was really bad.

and, if it was cheap, you can think "well, we haven't payed a lot", but...

to forget!

Agriturismo Tabiano Mezzapiaggia: Agriturismo Tabiano Mezzapiaggia

We booked this agriturismo via internet (at www.agriturismo.it), just for one night. It is located 5km from Siena and it was relatively easy to find (with GPS and the website's coordenates). The location is quite nice, far from the village, really peaceful.

We stayed in an appartment, with kitchen, bathroom and a spacious double room. They also have a pool, but we didn't take a swim since we arrived at 8 pm and left around 10 am the next day.

We were a little disappointed with the treatment we received, but maybe it was because we had stayed in a wonderful agriturismo the night before. There was no salt or oil in the kitchen, although they gave it to us when we asked. There was no breakfast too and, though we read that they offer they guests a welcoming gift with their own products, we weren't given anything (but maybe because we also didn't ask for it and we were staying only for one night).

It is a nice place and I would recomend it - but I am sure there are much better places to stay in the area.

In may 2008, we paid 65€ for one night.

PS: I did love the cats walking around :)

Il Canto del Sole: Il Canto del Sole - B&B 10km's south of Siena

Il Canto del Sole is a B&B located in an 18th century Tuscan farm house, 10km south of Siena. We stayed there for one night in Sep 2007, as we wanted to get out in the countryside and relax for a night.

The main farmhouse building has 6 rooms, and there are a few others located in the outhouses. Attached to the farmhouse is a lounge and games room, with an impossible pool table, and the restaurant where dinner and breakfast are served. There is also a swimming pool, a BBQ area, and panoramic views over the valley.

The rustic rooms are attractively decorated, and we were lucky to be allocated a room in the main farmhouse, which was much nicer than those in the other buildings. The bathrooms are modern and clean.

The owners, Laura & Luciano, are friendly and make you feel very welcome. They have a son (who enjoys playing with visiting kids) and some friendly pets. They are happy to offer advice and information in regards to sightseeing in the local area and beyond.

All guests can enjoy dinner at the B&B, though you must advise them in advance (see my restaurant tip for more details). I would highly recommend it, particularly as there is nowhere else around to eat. Breakfast is buffet style and there are lots of tasty cakes.

Villa Scacciapensieri: Room With A View

Exquisite.

This hotel is a throwback to a more genteel era: excellent, refined restaurant; close to the walled city but far enough out to offer serenity and gorgeous views of the Tuscan countryside; swimming pool; tennis court.

Ecoturism La Casa Gialla: Lovely Rustic Farm House in the Tuscan Countryside

If you want an authentic stay at a farm in Tuscany, then La Casa Gialla is your kind of place. Very rustic, nothing fancy but really homey. The women who run it are very nice. One of the owners is a sculptor who makes charming local craft pottery which she sells on the premises. The rooms are pleasant, mostly with their own bathroom. The breakfasts are filling and served in a sunny dining room with a large open fireplace. The farm offers lovely views of the Tuscan countryside and peacefull surroundings. Numerous day trips can be taken from this location from all directions. This farm house is just 20 minutes from Siena, and close to many other lovely towns, such as San Gimignano/Volterra, Pienza, Montepulciano and Montelcino. You can easily visit the Church of San Galgano and the nearby towns are completely unspoiled. (Do stay away from the Town of Torri, go to my VT page) The owners will have plenty of suggestions for visitors.

Authentic rustic atmosphere, but very comfortable. Nothing fancy but very charming. There are dogs and cats all over the property, which i loved. On the way up to the house is a hog farm. There are also natural thermal spas nearby that I did not have time to visit. The small village of Sovicelle is very nice along with the surrounding towns. No tourists but pretty scenery.

This was a great hotel: it had two floors with pleasant light rooms. The hotel was brand new. I forgot the name and address, but it was just outside the centre of town near the hospital.

This hotel has brand new pleasant light rooms, a swimmingpool and room service. The view from the exellent breakfast room and terrace is excellent.
