idea for honeymoon week in early NOV

by clofitz

Hi
I am looking for some ideas for the first week in NOv. It is our honeymoon and we will be spending the previous week in Florence. We are flying home from Genoa adn are looking for a place to go. We would like to get out of cities - maybe a villa in the countrysde or by the sea? We have some money to spend so would like something reasonably luxurious. We were thinking of Cinque Terre ( anyone know a really nice hotel open in Nov?) or amybe Portofino? Or does anyone know of a really nice villa/hotel in the Tuscan Hills?

Any advice would be v. gratefully accepted!!!!

tks
Clodagh

There's a beautiful little inn called La Sarcena..it's near Pienza and the rooms are fantastic and large. That's Tuscany and day trips around the entire region are very easy...also some great restaurants nearby. I think it would make for a very romantic few days. Portofino is also very pretty but probably a bit cool by November.

Have a wonderful time.

There are two beautiful hotels but expensive in old villas close to Lucca direction to Pisa One is- Locanda Elisa and the other is La Principessa. Lucca is also a beautiful city and not too touristy.
You can find both hotels at venere.it

Check out Herbert Ypma's book Hip Hotels - Italy.
There is a truly amazing relais in Tuscany - at Pievescola. The Relais la Suvera. Expensive, but you get suites stuffed with priceless antiques, overlooking the hills near Siena. Looks amazing!
(Portofino has the Splendido, of course, but it's overpriced and stuffy, for my taste.)

Have a great time

Travel Tips for Siena

Lega Nord

by croisbeauty

Lega Nord is political alliance to which belongs most of the regions from the Northern Italy. Being neutral, I find it not very friendly towards the southern part of the country. The main political platform of the Lega is Devolution, in order to established the federalism in Italy. I didn't expect to see their supporters in, what is called, the Heart of Italy.

A rather forgettable dinner

by Tijavi about Il Sasso

The sight of locals supping was the biggest draw for me. But the evening ended on a flat note. Firstly, the appetizer of mozzarella ball with grilled pepper and aubergine was unexciting. I guess it is was it is - a ball of mozzarella cheese. The main course - roast duck with fennel seeds - was dry, tasting almost paper-like, although the fennel flavor blended quite well with the rather strong flavor of the duck. The skin though, could have been roasted a little bit more, although I wasnt expecting peking-duck perfection. And the dessert, chocolate flan, was the biggest letdown - it was drier and flakier than chocolate cake!

The positives: the wine, Borgo Scopeto, was quite good - it was recommended by the waiter who used to work in the vineyards in Tuscany. And the service was prompt, attentive and friendly.

Dievole's Best Wines

by syllybabe

We were a small group of 4 with a special tour guide who took us to Dievole, one of the bigger wineries in Chianti. We paid $150 each for a 5-hour tour that included the winetasting tour in Dievole, lunch, then Monteriggioni, Castellina in Chianti, and Ama.

Heart Of The City

by jag17

The Piazza del Campo is an open plaza at the heart of the city. Once the site of the Roman forum and central market place. It is still used for all of Siena's public events. Bullfights, festivals, and the famous Palio all occur here.
