Looking for "porte toscane" poster

by Lauravhp

When I was in Siena more than ten years ago, I bought two beautiful posters, "battenti toscani" and "porte toscane." Owing to my own stupidity in not putting UV-resistant glass on them, the "porte toscane" one has faded badly. I am hoping to replace it. Any ideas?

Welcome, Laura :-)

When I was in Siena recently I saw these posters in a window of a bookstores. I tried to find out if they have a website, but it does not seem so. I mean Libreria Senese, in the half circular road behind the campo. The other big bookstore, Feltrinelli, has a website but I didn't find these posters. So maybe the best is indeed to try and buy it online from this US based shop. I don't remember the prices in Siena, but I doubt that it was cheaper there.

Travel Tips for Siena

My Name is Duccio - Combined Ticket

by JoostvandenVondel

One of the best ways to see Siena's sights is the combined ticket called "My Name is Duccio", named after the medieval Sienese artist, Duccio di Buoninsegna. It costs, as of 2009, €10.00 and allows the visitor to visit the Duomo, Baptistry, Crypt, Museo dell'Opera + Facciatone and the Oratory of San Bernardino. Normally, each one of these sight charges about €3.00 entry fee. The card is valid for three days and is well worth the little investment.

The contrade's fountains: not only for water

by Trekki

Apart from Siena’s regular fountains which date back to the early days of the town, each contrada has its own fountain. Each of these has its artistically made icon or symbol of the contrada. The fountains play a major role in the life of a contradaiolo, especially when he or she is born. Because each year at the contrada's patron saint day, each baby which was born during the year is being baptised with the water of the contrada’s fountain. It is then when it receives a scarf with the contrada's colours, in a way the official entry into the contrada. A very cute custom! I even found a video on youtube, which I have linked in the website section.

The fountains in my photos are of Panthera (panther), Selva (forest, the tree) and Torre (the elephant). Especially Pathera’s fountain was nice, they also have a small band with Panthera’s colours red and blue and a small panther embedded on the ground (last photo).

lots of dangerous and tiny steps

by globetrott

After the ticket-control there are lots of steps beeing really just 45 cm wide , and people coming down , while you walk up...

THIS is the reason, why you are not allowed to take any bags or other lugguage with you

A good Pizza

by Cristian_Uluru about Pizzeria 4 Venti

Pizzeria 4 Venti is located in front of the the church of San Pietro alle Scale. In this restaurant you can taste a very good Italian Pizza. As dessert I can suggest to taste Focaccia Nutella & Mascarpone: white baked bread with Nutella and Mascarpone cheese. Delicious!!!!

how to learn about Tuscan Wines in a funny and simply atmosphear
Hi ! I'm a french winemaker from St Emilion. Just some words to advise to visit the Tuscan Wine School in Siena. There whatever your knowledges in wine, you could have a nice time of learning and tasting !!! During 2 hours, I learnt a lot of informations about Italian and tuscan wines, which will be very profitable for my studies in Master of Wine in London. Thanks a lot to Rebecca, the Master of Tuscan Wines... and cheeses !!! http://www.tuscanwineschool.com/
