Contrada della Torre
by croisbeauty
The seat of Contrada della Torre is situated in Via Salicotto 103, which belongs to the Terzzo di San Martino. Torre is winner of Palio in 2005 and some pictures, you can see here, are taken during the victory celebrations. By the way, it was long time waited victory and the members were trully exaltated.

The Catherdal
by guell
This cathedral, one of my favorites, was begun in the 12th century in the Romanesque style but was transformed in the 13th century into one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic. The walls and columns of the church's interior are covered with black and white marble, and its marble floors, which are covered up for 11 months out of the year, have decorative inlays by Domenico Beccafumi. We were fortunate enough to have seen them uncovered during our visit!
Time for church
by karenincalifornia
Many people have told me they think Siena's Cathedral or Duomo, built during the 13th to 15th centuries, is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Italy. I have to agree with them. Siena intended to build a church that was far more beautiful than the Cathedral of Florence. At the time, Florence and Siena were bitter enemies, and this was one way Siena wanted to show its superiority.
Some would say the same type of bitter animosity exists today in the US. It's called College Football and is particularly strong among the Southern universities. Rather than build the most beautiful churches, these universities try to outdo each other by building the biggest and best football stadium.
Both the exterior and interior of the Cathedral of Siena are impressively ornate. This structure conveys the great power and wealth of the Catholic church during this era.
By the way, in case you haven't guessed it, this is the sight those three tourists on my Siena intro page were photographing. You'll need a serious wide angle lens to get the entire facade in your photo.
