bus from assisi to sorrento

by slimjess07

I have seen on a couple of different websites that there is a bus everyday form assisi to sorrento, but that is all that is says. Does anyone know where in assisi do you catch this bus, schedule, how much it costs, and how long it takes? Thanks.
Jess

I would tell you, Jess, but www.italybus.it (the portal for all the Italian regional bus companies) does not show a solution for this trip any longer. We could try again tomorrow just to make sure (there is an error message that shows up but I think the website correctly indicates that there is no bus first).

There do appear to be bus solutions from Perugia (just down the road from Assisi) to Sorrento, but that take all day and include a change of bus in Rome.

The trains will involve some changes as well. First, you would take a local bus from the Assisi (if you're in the upper city) to the train station (in Santa Maria degli Angeli) - don't worry, this is a local bus - then take the train to Naples (with at least one change in Rome), then switch to the Circumvesuviana (private) train to Sorrento.

Take a look at www.trenitalia.com (English at the top), and look for rail solutions between Assisi and Napoli (Naples). Note that there are many different ones (click on the "see all solutions" button) that vary considerably in price and duration of trip. In some cases, 1st class on regional trains is half the price of 2nd class on the premium trains - well, 2nd class on the premium trains may well be nicer than 1st class on the old regional trains, and the premium trains will be faster, but I don't know your needs of time versus money...

Hy,
I find something. There is a daily bus from Assisi to Pompei, via Napoli. It starts from San Pietro square in Assisi at 13.45 and it arrives to Napoli at 19.00 and to Pompei at 19.45. Then by train with Circumvesuviana company. Fares: 29€ O/W, 50€ return Assisi to Napoli/Pompei. Napoli-Sorrento 3.30€ O/W, Pompei-Sorrento 1.90€ O/W

I suggest you get off in Naples, in front of the railstation (Garibaldi square) at 19.00, then catch the 19.40 train to Sorrento.
Hope this helps
Ciao, Marco

Might be easier (and certainly quicker)just to take the train all the way.

Assisi>Napoli Centrale, then go to the adjoining Napoli Garibaldi station (well-signed) and take the cheap, frequent Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. You willneed to buiy a sepaarte ticket for this segment of the journey.

Travel Tips for Assisi

San Damiano - the walk from Upper Assisi

by icunme

This is a long walk downhill - longer walking back up - or so it seems. Probably a good mile and a half down to San Damiano from the main street in Upper Assisi. It is well worth the trek - you will walk truly in the steps of Saint Francis and Saint Clare through the uncluttered, natural green Assisi countryside. With olive groves and the only inhabitants - the birds, rabbits and a few other critters - a step back in time. What is most moving about this walk is the lack of movement - the serenity - the silence, and the sense of timelessness that one feels going from the village to this church, more than one kilometre away from the Basilica of San Francesco. Perhaps that we linger and stop many times along the way, the distance seems to be much longer.
Enjoy...........

View the "Lower" town from the "Upper" town

by icunme

The extraordinary views that magically appear like an apparition as you walk along the streets of Assisi are breathtaking. You turn a corner and suddenly an expansive view of the valley below stretches out before you. You can only stop - gaze from side to side and hope that you are seeing it all -- and, that you have enough memory and battery left in your camera to aid your recollection.
