Frescoe along the paths of Upper Assisi
Try to venture off the main street leading through Assisi and you will see frescoes in uncommon places - just there, in that particular spot, seemingly because they were the whim of the artist at the time.

I will be in Assisi on the 2nd of August.
I have been reading online that the Celebration of Pardon is held in the Basilica Santa Maria Degli Angeli on that day. Is it a big celebration that will draw huge crowds?
Regards,
Stevie
Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli is "outside" of the city of Assisi. It is where the train station for Assisi is.
Even if I can't answer how many people will attend it, it will certainly draw people out of the city of Assisi, so the city might be a tiny bit less crowded than usually.
I hope this helps.
Ingrid :-)
The Celebration of the Pardon attracts pilgrims from all over the world, and Assisi is packed.
If you're thinking of staying over in Assisi, I hope you've pre-booked accommodation
Accommodationwise yes, but while the celebration is being held, the city will be rather not packed. Santa Maria Degli Angeli is approx. 5 km southwest from Basilica San Francesco.

One approaches the complex from the Piazza Inferiore, an enchanting open space lined with a series of low arcades. The immense structure of the Basilica, regarded as being one of the most famous places of Christian worship, consists of two churches placed one on top of the other: the Lower Church, built from 1228-1230 and the Upper Church, built from 1230-1253.
The building is dominated by a robust square campanile in four orders and decorated with mullioned windows of two and three lights and also has large arches.
The building was completed in 1239.
The Basilica is commonly thought to have been conceived by Friar Elias, the Vicar General of the Franciscans, immediately after the death of St. Francis.
Assisi is famous as the birthplace of St. Francesco, patron saint of Italy, founder of the Franciscan order, and one of the most popular Catholic saints in history. The sacred town has been a major Catholic pilgrimage destination for centuries, cuddled by Umbrian green fileds beautifully in peace. There are many churches in Assis, Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi is one of the majors..
The blue and red flag is easy to spot on the main square of Assisi... I read there is Medieval Festival on one of our travel magazine.. Festa Calendimaggio held on the beginning of each May in Assisi.. as a re-enactment of medieval and Renaissance life in the form of a challenge between the upper faction and the lower faction of the town. It includes processions, theatrical presentations, flag-weavers and dances. (- from Wikipedia)...
It was really nice to find the houses, streets in Assisi looks pretty well maintained... to wander around in its winding lanes was quite pleasant in a nice weather..
