Umbria Jazz Festival
We visited Perugia on the opening day of the Umbria Jazz Festival 2004. The city had such an air of energy and excitement. Performances began at around 2:00 pm. If we had stayed through the evening, we would have seen BB King. Other Jazz artists performing in 2004 were George Clinton Parliament/Funkadelic, Jack DeJohnette, Keith Jarrett, James Brown, Patti LaBelle, The Manhattan Transfer, The Count Basie Orchestra, Alicia Keyes, Burt Bacharach, The Standford University Jazz Band and many others.
The dates of the 2005 Jazz Festival are 08 July 2005 to 17 July 2005. Arrive early in the day in Perugia to avoid parking problems.
A Historical and Beautiful City in Umbria
Perugia was top on my list of sights to see when visiting Italy. I had heard so much about the architecture, monuments, cathedrals and the people of the city. Perugia was about a forty five minute drive from Cortona; the way her Uncle was driving....
The city is bustling with people; after all it is the capital city of Umbria. The city has many major attractions such as :
Rocca Paolina, Ipogeo dei Volumni, the Etruscan town walls, Palazzo dei Priori, Porta Sant' Angelo , the Acqueduct , Maestà delle Volte , Collegio della Mercanzia , Collegio del Cambio, Fontana Maggiore, Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Church of San Filippo Neri, Oratory of San Bernardino,Church of Sant' Ercolano, Church of San Domenico, Church of San Pietro, Historic Museum Perugina, Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria, Museo Archeologico, Palazzo della Penna, the Accademia delle Belle Arti, Museo di Storia Naturale, Museo Capitolare San Lorenzo, Cappella di San Severo, Palazzo Capitano del Popolo and the Botanical garden.
A full day is not enough to see and experience all this city has to offer.
