questions galore

by touristgal

I will be here on July 2nd through July 7th.

What must I see and do? Where should I eat? How close to Florence am I? How much by train to get to Florence for a day or two? What are the low cost carriers if I want to fly to Sicily for a day?

Also up for meeting anyone there, since I am working and will be by myself.

Hi,
You may have to set aside more time to Sicily. 2-3 days. If you were in Calabria you could get the boat to Messina in 20 minuets. Sicily is well worth the extra effort.
Enjoy
Bye.

Hi there,
i'm from Spello but studied in Perugia...well in summer there are plenty of things to do here!
First, just have a walk through historical cenre of Perugia, its narrow streets, churchs, squares, try its trattorias, cafes, enjoy very tasty meals and very good wines...for info. just go to the tourism office in Piazza IV novembre and ask for brochures,...
About what to do..well in july starts the Umbria Jazz festival...with plenty of jazz music "live" along the streets of Perugia in the afternoon-night=a lot of people, music, drinking and fun!
just outside of Perugia you cant miss Assisi-Spello-Bevagna....(in order)...or Lake Trasimeno if u like this kind of landscapes!
wine tasting and cooking lessons are frequent in many towns.

Connection by train from Perugia to Florence takes about 2 hours and the amount is about 22 euros (1way ticket)

Travel Tips for Perugia

Palazzo dei Priori

by karenincalifornia

One of the most impressive buildings in Perugia is the Palazzo dei Priori, the town hall built in medieval times. Construction began in the 13th century, and expansions were added in the 14th and 15th centuries. If you have the opportunity, go inside and take a gander at the spectacular Sala dei Notari, with its frescoes and murals.

Basilica di S.Domenico

by croisbeauty

The imposing Gothic construction from 14th century was rebuilt by Carlo Maderno in the first half of the 17th century. On either side of the bare facade are buttreses which continue around to the sides of the church. An elegant late 16th century portal and a double flight of steps decorate the facade.
The enormous stark interior of the church contains side chapels. The fourth chapel on the right is a part of the original building and contains an altar frontal by Antonio di Antonio di Duccio. The transept chapels contain many votive frescoes. Works of art include an 18th century organ, the Tomb of Elisabetta Cantucci - carved by Algardi, the Tomb of Danti family, the splendid tomb of Pope Benedict XI, the work of pupil of Arnolfo di Cambio.
The apse is lit by a large window, 23 meters in hight, beautifully decorated by Fra' Bartolomeo di Pietro and Mariotto di Nardo.
