Student accommodation in Perugia
by josieling
Hi All,
I'm Josie and I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I have a friend named Sherine who will be leaving for Perugia next month for a 3 mth course studying Italian at the university.
She's currently still looking for accommodation between 1 April to 1 July 2004. I was wondering whether you would know of any suitable place near Perugia university.
Thanks very much and I hope to hear from you soon.

I stayed in the hotel therefore cannot recommend any room rent accomodation. There are thousands of foreign students in Perugia, coz it is the major centre for the Italian language course. Check: www.perugiaonline.com, and click "room rent" on the left sidebar.
The town of Perugia, and all its surroundings, is great.

Hi Josie,
I was wondering what your friend eventually did for her accommodation. My friend and I are leaving for Perugia for the Italian course in 2 weeks too, so I was hoping to get some advice from you guys. Any other tips to surviving there would be much appreciated too. THanks a lot!
Cheerios,
Li Yen
Travel Tips for Perugia
Language
by deebum25
I cannot say or emphasize it enough if you are going to Italy please please PLEASE learn at least enough of the language to communicate! I studied for 6 months before our trip so I was not fluent but it made for a wonderful experience to be able to communicate. Some of the worst behavior I have ever seen was from frustrated American tourists who fully arrogantly expected the Italians to speak flawless English while they themselves did not bother to learn a word of Italian. I have found that if you show the respect of at least trying to speak the language, no matter how badly mangled you will receive a warmer reception than those red in the face who think that yelling is going to get their point across. Remember we're visiting their country, why not learn a little bit before you go? That said, in the cities English is more prevalent but where we liked to eat in the family run trattorias the only English you would hear was, "No speak English!"
Rocca Paolina
by croisbeauty
The grandiose fortress built by the will of Paolo III Farnese in record time between 1540 and 1543, occupied the area of the heavily populated medieval quarter where the houses of the Bglioni family stood.
It was erected under the guidanceof the archirect Antonio da Sangallo il Gionave, through a system of spurs and casemats for its five levels with an additional smaller fortress downhill, called the Tenaglia.
The massive structure continued to be a symbol of dominance over the people of Perugia for more than three hundred years.
Immediately following the formation of the Kingdom of Italy the Perugians destroyed it to celebrate their liberation from the much hated Papal regime.
All that is left of the building is the retaining walls of one of the spurs, where in area a number of large roomsnow used for various purposes.
Questions and Answers
Q: Accommodation, Transport, Things to see and do "My wife and I will be in Perugia in mid Jan 2013. My wife has mobility issues and at times will need to be in a wheel chair. After..."
A: "Perugia is pretty hilly. You might want to rethink your base. How about Lucca? It's flat and would be more accessible to a wheelchair.
Just a thought."
