Travel Tips for Spello

Day trip to Assisi

by pigletsmom

Assisi is gorgeous and not to be missed. Only 20-30 minutes from Spello Stay away from Assisi on religious holidays and weekends due to the hordes of tourists.
Please check out my Assisi page for more tips and photos.
The food in Assisi is rather good. Look for wonderful pizza and rum raisen cheesecake. Yummy!

Spello is a Delightful Surprise!

by pigletsmom

"2000 years old and still counting"

Founded in the 1st century BC by the Romans, Spello is filled with history. It is a very small Umbrian town, easy to explore if you don't mind hiking up and down hills. It is right off the main highway. The locals are very friendly, and the town is not touristy at all. The entire town is built on the original roman roads that are as wide as an ox cart. Parking is easy, there are lots of spots in the main square. Towards the back of the town, there are some lovely medieval homes and some nice country scenery.
