No pile up at Pila
The Skiing area of Pila has the great advantage of being directly connected to the town of Aosta.
The 20-minute cablecar ride runs from a parking area on the far side of the railway station.
Despite being what is termed a 'heavy' week, I didn't queue for more than about 3 minutes at any lift.
I wouln't say there is a great amount of variety for the more experienced skier, but there are a couple of good black runs.
For the beginner, there is a short slope right at the entrance to the resort (at the top of the cablecar from Aosta) and a very useful wide-open blue area further up the mountain.
The only real drawback is that the charirlifts are not the quickest moder high-speed jobbies that you get in some other resorts.
The resort makes a good introduction to skiing in the Aosta valley, before heading to some of the larger resorts. Ski rentral companies are available at Cable car station
- reckon on about 20 euro a day for skis and boots together
