Refugio monte bianco: Very nice mountain regfuge.

by cachaseiro

Refugio monte bianco is located a few kilometers outside courmayeur, up in the mountains towards France.
It´s one of the best refuges in the valley and a really good place to stop for the night if trekking the region.
The place both have private and dormitory accomodation and the owners are real nice folks.
and not to forget:
The place has a really nice terrace with one of the best views in the alps and they serve cold beer there :O)

Pavone Castle: Pavone Castle

by Aurorae

Many castles in Val d'Aosta were turned into hotels. They are quite fancy and pompous accommodation settings, but if you can afford it, go for it.
During the Olympics in Torino all of them were full, of course.

Hotel Le Pageot: Utilitarians welcome

by wild.goose

Well, if all you want to do is check in, go to your room, have breakfast in the morning, then go out or check out, then Le Pageot is truly a decent hotel. Beds are comfortable and clean and its location near the train station, bus station, piazza and an internet point are certainly bonuses. However, staff can be a pain to talk to. Quite arrogant, presumptions and ill-timed. We were completely satisfied with the hotel's facilities and standards and loved its good location, but if ever went back to Aosta, we'd maybe try Hotel Mount Emilius which is next door and where we went to eat, because the people were nice and warm, and truly made you feel welcomed and relaxed - the way you should feel if you're on a holiday. Le Pageot made us feel like were were imposing on them, and we were glad to check out.

Note that on the website, it says that an internet point is available at the hotel, however due to a new Italian law passed around Aug 2005 to counter terrorrism, only authorised outlets are permitted to have internet points.

Internet points in Aosta are:

Hotel Les Neiges d'Antan: Lovely, quiet chalet

by sierralyndon

This was a fantastic find for us. A lovely hotel located some distance away from the ski resort of Breuil-Cervinia. It has been newly renovated and the rooms were tastefully done. You can just see the Matterhorn (Cervinia in Italian) from our room.

We visited in summer but I can imagine how gorgeous the place would be in the winter too. There is a reading room and another room with a fireplace - all very cool.

It is in a very quiet location, and so it is ideal if you want to get away from it all. There is no "life" around it within walking distance.

My only gripe about this place is a huge pylon right in front of the hotel... I couldn't quite believe it when I got there. But once you get over that, the beauty of the surroundings more than make up for it.

The restaurant is apparently a very, very good one. We had a fantastic meal on our half-board arrangement - could not finish our meal! Heavy, traditional foods but it was delicious.

Locanda La Clusaz: Hotel in the middle of nowhere

by sierralyndon

Not quite sure how to describe this place. We found it in a guide book and as we were getting desperate for a hotel, just booked there anyway because it looked ok enough.

La Clusaz is actually the name of a little village north of the city of Aosta (heading towards the Gran San Bernardo). Go past the village of Gignod and you will find the hotel on the left hand-side of the highway.

Which is the problem with it.

It is so cute and so cosy inside but our room window faced right onto the highway... which doesn't see much traffic (it is located so, so far away in the mountains) but when vehicles did go past it was quite noisy, esp. in the middle of the night. The views from the hotel were gorgeous though. There is also a lovely terrace on which you can sunbathe.

This looked like a fairly new establishment, and the lady who ran the place was extremely nice and friendly.

Strangely, in the bathrooms there was a price list of payments in the event that we soiled the linen!

Very out-of-the-way hotel, clean fresh air and very good restaurant.

Hotel Courmayeur: Convenient location

by sierralyndon

We stayed in this hotel in 2002. It was a pretty "normal" hotel, but I guess the best thing about it was its convenience. It is on the main road in Couramayeur but tucked away to the end so it isn't as noisy as it could potentially be.

Don't remember being particularly wowed over by any aspect of the premises, so I guess I'd have to say that it was an ok hotel.

Hotel Dolonne: A unique little hotel

by sierralyndon

This little hotel was a real gem and I was very pleased we found it. It is located in a little medieval village just across the river from the popular resort of Courmayeur.

It is a medieval structure and even internally, some of the construction (e.g. stairs) are the original stone.

The rooms themselves are typically Val D'aostan in style. Our room was fairly normal, but my brother and sister-in-law had a unique one in what was practically the attic of the building. It was very cute.

Run by very pleasant people, we had a nice stay here. Breakfast is included in the price and you can opt for full or half board as well.

Great views of the Mont Blanc... unfortunately it remained cloudy when we were there, so we missed out on this aspect!

Holiday Inn: Holiday inn.

by eurotravels

Fairly central and we had a large room on the top floor for a very competitive price.

Reliable if not particularly characterful. The picture shows the view from our room,
