A different experience
We have just returned from the Color Hotel, having spent four nights there. Whilst the public areas of the hotel are very attractive and stylish the location is disappointing. The hotel is on a busy main road and rooms at the front have a view of the Esso garage. We had a standard room for the first three nights. This was situated at the back of the hotel in the old part of the hotel which has not been renovated. It was very small and had a noisy air conditioning unit. We had to mention this several times before it was fixed. We moved to a larger room at the front for the last night . This room had been refurbished and was more comfortable but it was only slightly bigger.
There were guests from several countries but the majority were from Holland. The hotel was International rather than typically Italian. It was difficult to get a sun bed in either of the pool areas as other guests had their towels out from very early in the morning!
The breakfast buffet was excellent and there was a good choice for the evening meal if you had half board. We chose to gto out to eat on our last night and enjoyed an excellent meal in one of the local restaurants.
Bardolino was a pleasant resort. The highlight of the week was the Wednesday evening concert in the town. It was a real treat.
We spent the earlier part of our holiday in the mountain resort of Canazei and stayed in an excellent hotel. The Color Hotel had some strengths but did not compare for quality of service or value for money.
If you are a single traveller - this is a good hotel for you!
As a female single traveller, I have stayed in many hotels of varying quality.
Hotel Color is an excellent hotel, with beautiful gardens and pools. Part of the hotel is awaiting renovation, this year, but existing rooms are still good. Two parts of the hotel are brand new.
The staff in the hotel are excellent, and genuinely friendly - quite a rare thing nowadays!
I took the bed and breakfast option (food very hearty and a good selection!) which allowed me to eat where I wanted to in Bardolino.
The ferry point is about ten minutes walk from the hotel, and you can reach any point on the lake from here. Also the hotel is about 40 minutes travelling time from Verona airport.
The bus station is 5 minutes from the hotel and the Bardolino Coach Terminal is almost next door beside a supermarket. The Lenotti Bardolino Wine Cantina, is about 3 minutes walk, from the hotel, and the pebbly lake beach (populated by little ducks) is about the same! I can highly recommend this hotel to female single travellers, as it is safe, has an excellent location, and very helpful and kind staff.
Hope you enjoy your holiday there!
Modern and stylish built on warmth and good service - near perfect!
Don't believe that modern and stylish must mean cold and unwelcoming. The Cristina Color is a gem of a hotel that provides stylish design and modern facilities but never fails to forget that the holiday experience is built upon excellent personal service. Having just returned from a week with our 19 month old toddler we can profess to having a near perfect stay.
The hotel continues to develop itself, so much so that the excellent website is already a little out of date. The hotel boasts a gorgeous large swimming pool to the rear of the hotel set in landscaped gardens and a modern pool at the front set in a decked terrace with a shaded chill-out lounge. Further developments will see a small semi-indoor pool and shaded relaxation room open adjacent to the rear pool in the coming days. The lounges and bar area are stylish and the range of rooms are beautifully done to reflect the colour theme of the hotel. We stayed in a junior suite which was excellent value but there are a range of rooms and suites ranging right up to the 5-star standard Samsara suites which are incredible. There are some older rooms but these will be refurbished over the coming winter.
Meals are served in a large covered terrace. The breakfast buffet includes everything you'd expect and more and the half-board option is well worth it given the quality of the 4 courses. What completes the meal experience is the superb staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. From the maids to reception to the bar staff the personal service is first class.
Like others have mentioned we would recommend booking directly with the hotel. They will arrange taxi transfer from local airports for a hassle free journey.
The only minor downside to the hotel is the location. Whilst only 10-15 minutes walk from the delightful town of Bardolino (with its wealth of bars and restaurants and picturesque streets) the view from the hotel is hardly inspiring ( a petrol station with Lake Garda just behind) In addition, to get to the lake you have to chance crossing a very busy main road which is not easy when zebra crossings mean little to Italian drivers!
We have stayed in some great hotels around the world and the Color holds its own against all of them. Whilst the fantastic Astoria Park in Riva Del Garda may slightly edge it out in the dining stakes for the overall holiday experience the Cristina Color takes the prize! We cannot wait to return next year.
They deserve the compliments!
With the risk of repeating what was said in the many reviews below:
Excellent hotel, clean rooms, great food, very nice staff!
Let me give you an example: when we arrived we checked in at the reception and the nice young lady (Laura) accompanied us to our room and on the way explained where everything was and things work etc. After a long drive our daughter had just one thing in mind and that was to go for a swimm. When we asked about the opening times of the pool, Laura looked at us with a slightly surprised face and said: the pools are over there, you are on holiday, so please go and swimm whenever you like with the little not to just mind the other visitors in case they might be having lunch or dinner next to the pool. The result of this approach (without the sometimes typical Italian signs with all the rules you have to follow and things that are not allowed) was that every visitor has the holiday it hoped for.
The hotel surprised us with a new swiming pool (that is, at this moment, still not visible on the different websites). And it is truely amazing. Extremely clean. Wel decorated, with nice palms (be carefull though as they might have some sharp spikes).
Next to the hotel is a street that leads directly to a large parking ground that is closed by a gate (your room key, of the credit card type, can be used to open this gate).
Although the hotel is located near a road it never once created any irritation whatsoever. I have added a picture from the side of the hotel looking across the street. (if you walk about 100 meters to your right and then turn left you can already see the Garda lake. From there you can use several routes to get to the centre of Bardolino (5 minutes) or walk north or south along the lake.
I have added a few of my picures as a reference
restaurant for a wedding party
We are getting married in Verona in June and are currently trying to organise an evening reception meal. At this stage we aren't sure whether to hold the reception in Verona itself or back at our resort in Bardolino, Lake Garda.
I think our preference is to have the meal in Bardolino. The question for the forum therefore is can you help out with restaurants. We will have 15 people in total. We are looking for a homely restaurant with good food, friendly staff and somewhere with a bit of atmosphere.
If we decide to have the meal in Verona, where would be a good place to go?
Any help greatly appreciated.
RE: restaurant for a wedding party
Hi and congrats!
So 15 for a weeding party. If you want the best for that day, try
Ristorante Il Desco
37121 Verona (VR) - Vicolo S. Sebastiano, 3/5
tel (+39) 045.595358
One of the best chef of Italy.... But the price is High. very high (even if every cent is worth)
If you wanna some (much) more affordable, try the underground cave of Cantina San Rocchetto (at ground floor there a sort of Tapas bar, but don't worry, go down....)
Both are within 200 meters from the roman forum, nowadays Piazza Erbe.
