Travel Tips for Bassano del Grappa
Chiesa di San Francesco
The Church of St. Francis, which stands on Piazza Garibaldi, was built at the end of the 13th century in Romanesque-Gothic style. Two centuries later, it was given over to the French who dedicated it to St. Francis. In the interior of the church there are 15th century frescoes, the Baroque altar by B. Tabacco and a Holy Cross by Guariento. The vestibule dating from 1306 protect the doorway and the recently restored fresco Madonna con Bambino (Madonna with Child).
Lusiana: Pre-Alp community and ex migrants
I live only 50km far from Lusiana, I could help you!
Lusiana could be a "Pre-Alp community" and usually on this communities people have a great feeling with foreign having "roots" in our Country.
The association interested about is usually called "Pro-Loco".
I have taken a look about Pro-Loco in Lusiana (Vicenza province, not so far from Marostica and Bassano del Grappa; is it true?).
I have this mail address: firstname.lastname@example.org
I suggest to try to contact them.
Feel you free to contact me again in case of no answer because they could believe your mail is spam. I'll try to keep them in contact with you speaking Italian language. OK?
Where to book...
..."Marostica" or "Bassano del Grappa".
Anyway for the moment I think it's more important to keep a contact with Lusiana community because I know sometimes they also accommodate ex migrants, or sons, in their homes without asking 1 euro!
Welcome in my Country!
Itinerary for the town centre
I suggest this itinerary: start from Viale dei Martiri incoming from the "Santa Maria delle Grazie" ancient door, go straight to the Dome (and the Superior Castle), after take direction to the Old Bridge and have a pause in "Nardini's" inn.
After that, look for the ceramic shops in Ferracina's street and go to the three squares (Piazzotto Montevecchio, Piazza Libertà and Piazza Garibaldi).
At the end visit the Museum here, expecially in this time (there is an important exhibition about Antonio Canova).
Famous Bridge of wood on the river Brenta, it lay on 4 pieces, it was known since 1209. It is a very old bridge despite it was destroyed more times by the river (brentane) and wars (War of Cambrai 1511 and builded again by Palladio in 1569/70). In 1915 it rexisted to the Austrian bombs! and with the song singed by Italians soldier (they singed "Sul Ponte di Bassano, noi ci darem la mano, per un bacin d'amor.....= In the Bridge of Bassano, we will give each other the hands, for a kiss of love") it wins the war! It was destroyed another time in the second world war, but eroically and tenaciously builded again by the famous and gloriousus soldiers ALPINI and since that time now the bridge is known as PONTE DEGLI ALPINI, the soldiers Alpini said "dura volontà alpina=hard and strong alps-volunty ".
Any time the bridge was builded again it was builded anytime equally as before.
Many times very drunk here :)
This place is a must for Bassano's people! You can drink the famous "meso e meso" which is a typical drink. Or just have a spritz :) Here you can buy also bottles of Grappa. Nardini is the most important producer of Grappa of Bassano.
