Piazza Liberta (Liberty Square) is the heart of Bassano del Grappa, here stands the magnificent Church of San Giovanni Battista, the statue of St. Bassiano, and very pitoresque Bottega del Pane, the oldest baker shop in the town, which is situated right on the corner of Piazzotto Montevecchio and the main square.
Glory to our Alpines! W GLI ALPINI!
by Kajron
My grandfather was a great Alpines. He suffered a lot things of war, he saw many cruel things, he won death many times, he saved a lot of people, but not his brother, whom desperately took on his shoulder from Albania to Italy, but he died during the travel in Istria....
Shame to Italy which doesn't have gratitude to this army.
here one of the songs of these valorous men the ALPINES: GLI ALPINI.
Sul Ponte di Bassano
Eccole che riva
ste bele moscardine
son fresche e verdoline
colori no le ghe n'ha.
Colori no ghe n'avemo
e gnanca no ghe ne serchemo
ma un canto noi ti faremo
al pointe de Bassan.
Sul ponte di Bassano
là ci darem la mano
là ci darem la mano
e un bacin d'amor.
Per un bacin d'amore
successer tanti guai
ah no credeva mai
doverti abbandonar.
Doverti abbandonare
volerti tanto bene
Queste son le catene
che m'incatena il cuor.
Che m'incatena il cuore
che m'incatena il pianto.
Averti tanto amato
Shots on the Wall
by rich77
If you walk from the Old Bridge in direction of the centre, before you leave the wooden bridge you can see, on your right, lot of shots on the wall. These shots are to remember a battle in may 1809 - as reported from a plate - between French and Austrian and I have to admit I don't know much about.
But I show you this to remember the work of the poor house-painters that every time have to put cement taking care a lot :P
Chiesa di San Donato
by physiar
The San Donato Church was built in 1208. It is claimed that St Francis of Assisi and St Anthony of Padua both stayed here during the third decade of the 13th century. The church was a hospital, run by Benedictine nuns in the 14th century, then a Fransican monastery during the 15th century. The church was restored in 1900, including work being done on the cell which was used by the two saints.
Piazzotto Montevecchio
by rich77
This small square is actually in repairing, but it quite finished. It's a beautiful square with some ancient buildings, in particular the house Michieli-Bonato.
If I'm not in mistake (I will check next time), you can not visit inside it :/
