I didnt stay here but am putting this in as a tip to provide information that is provided from my Hostelling International guide book - if Id have realised it was here I would have stayed here and spent a bit more time here rather than racing off to get to the auberge Id booked for the night in Trento about an hours drive away!
Bassano itself is such a lovely town with its wooden bridge over the river, old town on the river banks and the snow topped mountains in the background!
Unique Quality: Only 600metres from the town centre this 84 bed youth hostel is apparently open year round - whereas some youth hostels in Italy and around Europe close for certain months, generally winter, of each year.
Handy location to Venice airport 60km away, Treviso 45 km.

Ponte Degli Aplini (also known as Ponte Vecchio)
At the end of via Vittorelli stands Torre Civica (The City Tower), built during the 13th and 14th century under Paduan domain. The tower was recently completely restored. It is about 42m high and dominates Piazza Garibaldi and the entire historic centre of the town. The bettlement and the ogive-arched windows were a late addition made by architect Gaidon in 1825.
Bassano del Grappa is a wonderful little town that is so worth paying a visit. It boasts beautiful little shops, lovely glassware and ceramics (which if in bottle form often contains copious amount of grappa), and loads of charm.

In 1569 the bridge was reconstructed by Andrea Palladio (greatist architect of Renaissance) and has since always been rebuilt according to the project of this famous architect. In case you didn't know it, Palladio is considered as the most inovative architect of all times.
This is the ancient entrance to the city... it is possible to pass into it with the car, even if most of the hystorical centre (in night there are more renstrictions) is not allowed. On the left you see a monument of General Cadorna (an alpin hero of the First WW), looking to the Monte Grappa.
A phrase tell "Monte Grappa tu sei la mia Patria" (Monte Grappa you are my Country).
In this time, inside it there is a great collection (probably the most important all ever about this artist) about Antonio Canova, the artist of Possagno who has buried in Frari's Church in Venice.
There are also beautiful paintings about Venetian Reinaissance artists here, like the local "Jacopo da' Ponte" and Tiepolo.
