The people of Cadore are tough folk used to hard work and sacrifice.
After being ruled by the Lords of Camino and the Counts of Tyrol, they voted to merge with the Republic of Venice.
Whole area of Cadore was one of the main suppliers of wood to the Venetian Republic in days of old.
Mountain Chapel

This small chapel of exceptional beauty stands at the top of the Passo Falzarego, just opposite to the Funivia Lagazuoi. The altitude here is over 2.200 meters and it is the highest peak I have ever visited in whole my life. Although I was a bit scared the beauty around have left me breathless.

The air hums to the sound of engines as riders from across Europe come to test themselves and their machines on these twisting ribbons of tarmac.

All kinds of riders from the MotoGP wannabes to the more conservative riders are drawn to the area to take on the mountains and the passes through and over them... Pordoi....

and the Sella Pass, to name but two....
Before dispersing across the area to seek food and shelter for the night, and to look for other riders to tell of their daring ride... and Cortina provides them all somewhere for R&R before the next day on the road...
