3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Various: Accomodation on Giudecca

There are at least 5 places to stay on Giudecca- 2 luxury, 2 budget and 1 you wouldn't want to stay at!

Out of my price range is the Cipriani - Renowned as one of the Worlds greatest hotels.

Apparently 2 of the suites here (The Palazzo Vendramin and the Palazetto Nani Barboro have waterside views and your own butler!!!(open all year round) There's a heated swimming pool, gym, beauty salon, tennis courts and a vineyard. If I was staying here, I'd get my butler to play tennis for me! It costs from nearly 900 euros to nearly 1,300 euros per night!
The restaurant is pretty extortionate (and formal) too, but for less money you can have a meal or drink at the Cips Club- on a floating platform. www.cipriani.com

The new kid on the block is the Molino Stucky Hilton at the opposite end of the island. A former 19th century flour mill. Non-residents can enjoy a drink with a view from the rooftop Skyline bar. A couple of my friends did this, and received a complimentary platter of fresh fruit.
Costs from nearly 500 euros -£3,200 euros per night!!

Both hotels offer a private shuttle boat to San Marco.

Ostello Venezia is more in my price range! This must be amongst the best located Youth hostels ever! It gets booked up in the summer months -apparently it doesn't take 'phone bookings, so you need to write well in advance. You can book in person from 1800hrs - doors open mid day for queuing!!!! YHA members only- but you can join here.
Doors open 0700-09.30 and 13.30-2300 - CURFEW AT 23.30!!
Giudecca 86, Fondamente delle Zitelle

I've read there is a Female only hostel run by nuns near to this establishment it has a 22.30 hrs curfew (2200hrs in Winter!) Istituto Canossiano Giudecca 428, Fondamente del Ponte Piccolo tel/fax 0415222157

The other establishment is a womens prison - I thought that it was closed- as it all looked very quiet, but apparently it is still in operation! (This is the Giudecca Accommodation that you really don't want to stay at!)
This place was recently featured in Jamie Olivers Series 'Jamie Does.... Episode 4 was Venice. CLICK HERE FOR INFO
The prisoners have an organic vegetable garden, where they tend and harvest the plants. Each Thursday morning, they sell the produce at a small market, outside the prison walls on Fondamenta delle Convertite.
This is quite forward thinking in comparison with many of Italys prisons, where there is a rehabilitation and educative programme. Please see my 'Off the beaten track tip for more info about this prison

Since seeing this, perhaps there are worse places to stay!!!!
