Stylish and smart small hotel

We stayed three nights in April 2009 at the Il theatro with our two kids (6 and 1). The hotel seems brand new and is very stylish and modern. It was a welcome change from the usual slightly old-fashioned frilly/flowery seaside hotels of the coast. The swimming pool was small but clean and beautifully tiled with green mosaics.

We enjoyed staying in our one-bedroom appartment which was spacious although we found the kitchen units were unecessarily big for such a small flat. As a result, there wasn't really any lounge as such apart from a three-seater sofa facing a flat TV screen squeezed between the imposing kitchen units and the patio door. It felt that we just had a big kitchen with a small sofa in it. The kids definitely lacked space to play and it never felt cosy to sit down and have a drink or talk.

The balcony was however wide and my kids enjoyed playing ball on it.

Another issue was the lack of bathtube in the bathroom; when we raise this with the reception they told us that all bedrooms were fitted with showers only. A big disappointment for families with young children who need a bath to get rid of that beach sand at the end of the day. Every evening shower was met with screams from my one-year old daughter. Not a nice way to end the day....

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave us useful and accurate information about how to get to Venice and recommended a very good local fish restaurant, "Bucintoro". They always had a small for our children.

The hotel does not have beach view and, we found, it quite noisy. But that maybe because we live in an incredibly quiet rural area so other people might actually enjoy the "buzz" surrounding the hotel. There are plenty of restaurants, (tacky) shops and bars nearby and the beach can be reached in just a minute.

I wouldn't go back to this hotel because of the lack of bathtube, something I find essential with young kids.
