From Rome to Malcesine to Venice
by crldnll
Hi,
I am planning a trip to Venice in June. I am hoping to travel from Rome to Malcesine via train, to spend the day in Malcesine and then travel to Venice. Ideally I would like to travel by train, but I have heard there is no railway in Malcesine. What would be the easiest way to travel from Rome to Malcesine? And also, from Malcesine to Venice?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

yes, no trains in Malcesine, and when there you will easily understand why.
Train to Verona is easy. Look at

for timetables. You would have a choice to even fly Meridiana from FCO, but that may be ok only if you are alrady at the airport.
Once at Verona train station, there is a quite frequent bus service to Malcesine, just out of the station gates.
For details and working links look at the tip i wrote in my Torri page;

To Venice, it's the same. Once at the station, you will have a train ride of 1:20 /1:40, depending on the trins, right to venice Santa Lucia train station
But if you want to do all in a day.. Well, even waking up early you won't have many hours in Malcesine.
Ciao
