We are staying at Malcesine for a week in September then travelling onto Florence for a few days. Can anybody assist with best method of transfer ie hire
a car or public transport and how long this journey would take.

the best way to reach Florence is from Malcesine to Verona ATV pubblic transport.
From Verona to Florence train, which stop downtown Florence.
The easiest way is bus to Verona (direct to the train station) and then one of the 3 direct fast trains (AV frecciargento) a day.

My favourite thing about Malcesine is taking lunch on the lake shore, on one of the restaurant terraces on the piers on the lake shore. Find the small marina and then check out the restaurants, check the prices - but it is not such a problem with prices than in other places, I found there are very good prices in Malcesine.
