Super convenient..and absolutely super!

We decided to stay in Mestre because Venice hotels are so expensive. Having been before, I know it would be easy to get to Venice by train or local bus, so I wanted a Mestre hotel near the station.

The Hotel Cris fitted the bill perfectly. It's family-owned, sparklingly clean and set on a quiet side-street about 5 minutes' walk from Mestre station and the ATVO airport bus stop. The bus stop for the number 2 Mestre>Venezia bus is less than a minute away.

Although check-in closes at 2100 staff were happy to check us in later (I emailed beforehand) as our flight did not arrive until 2100. We had booked two single rooms: mine on the first floor, my friend on the ground floor. Both were beautifully clean, with comfortable beds, safe, TV etc. The en suites were as clean as the rest of the hotel, and equipped with a bidet.

Breakfast was excellent: good coffee (served in a jug) or cappuchino or tea, juice (blood orange, which was lovely), cereals, brioches, rolls, yoghurts, eggs, meat, cheese...and delicious cakes (I saved that until my last morning!).

Via Monte del Nero is a very quiet road, with little traffic. I always use ear-plugs, but my friend also noted that the hotel was quiet.

There is secure car parking for guests, which is a very big plus. The car park/courtyard is equipped with a large table, umbrella and chairs...an ideal spot to sit and read for a while after a busy day exploring the area.

Staff were all pleasant, courteous and helpful with good English. They clearly get many guests of different nationalities, and are organised for this. Bus and vaporetto tickets are available and there is a computer for guest use in the foyer (as well as free wifi).

The hotel is particularly secure. You have to buzz to be allowed in. If you come back after 2300, the small key provided opens the electronic car park gate and there is an entry code for the rear door.

All in all, this is an excellent and very reasonably-priced place to stay if Venice itself is outside your budget. Meals and drinks are also cheaper in Mestre, by the way, and there are several places to eat near the hotel (Mestre's historical centre is about 10 minutes' walk).

One thing to be aware of: Venice and Mestre have recently introduced a city tax. This is a very small amount (about 2 euro per night in high season), but the hotel wanted it paid in cash rather than included in the bill.

Definitely a good place to stay.

Was extremely pleased

I was very pleased with this small hotel. and the next time I go to Mestre/Venice I'll stay there again.

It's well placed for both the bus and the train to Venice, but in a quiet side street. The room was warm (in March), clean and pleasant. The people on the desk were very helpful. Breakfast was better than average for a hotel.

I thought the hotel was very good value.

There's an excellent restaurant just round the corner where I had supper.

Unique Quality: Quiet, good position, friendly
